I've seen that with other '40s suits before, but sadly in the '60s everyone was so obsessed with being modern and up to date it didn't matter to them that they were destroying history.

Sale pending? Who would buy this? 60s suits are rather easy to find and 40s... well there is not much left from it.

BTW it is in the classifieds. I bet you wanted to put it into the vintage finds and deals (gone wrong)

Oops. Yes - of course. (Maybe a Bartender can kindly move this to the proper section.)

Who would buy this?

No idea. Not at this price anyway. For a very cheap price one could use it for a pattern and salvage the material.
*sigh* ...one doesn't find often named and dated Continental/German suits... and this one was a genuine wartime one. Too bad.

My Grandmother cut up my Grandfathers formal navy uniform into a suit for their oldest son. Post depression people wasted nothing. When they came back many had nothing. In this regard I find fatigues at the salvation army from recent vets.

I have a great pre-1949 double-breasted suit that someone made single breasted and cut down the lapels so they were thin. They also took in the pant legs and removed the cuffs...guess they didn't have a lot of money to buy a new "Continental"-look suit so they made do with what they had.

I actually bought a 1940's tie from a salvation army that had been completely un-stitched and re-sewn to 1970's width. My guess is that the owner liked the pattern or color a lot and/or couldn't find the modern equivalent and therefore had it retro fitted.

I understand reuse, mending and repairing. It certainly happened to my grandfather's demob suit as it was cut down for each of his sons in succession.

But this above cannot possibly be included in that category. It would never have been used as a tuxedo jacket, and could certainly no longer have been used as a suit jacket. An awful mess all around.
