1940s hair styles for school...

So, here's the problem...

I'm fifteen and I love all the vintage hairstyles, but particularly the ones of the 1940s era. Obviously being in full time education, though, it's a bit difficult to spend a lot of time on my hair Plus some styles are more suited to going out rather than everyday.

I was really just wondering if anybody has any tips on fairly quick updos suitable for school?

Amy, welcome to the Lounge! Many gals here have full-time careers AND families, which are as or more time consuming than full-time studies. Many of them also manage to do great hairstyles! I, however, am not one of them lol I'm sure you'll get some great advice here though.

Hi Amy & welcome I have 4 kids so on a daily basis i don't have much time to do complicated stuff so my general hairstyle is sort of like yours in your pic.Except i usually exaggerate the pouffiness a bit more in front & on the side by pushing hair combs forward & using mousse & hairspray & then i either sleep in rollers or pin curls for a more defined neater curl around the back or just scrunch if i havn't done that,i'm fortunate to have thick already curly hair so that isn't probably much help to you ,sorry.The faithful ponytail with a curled,rolled or pouffy fringe/bangs is always good too although i assosciate that more with 50's than forties.
There is a thread either in this section or the powder room called everyday woman of the golden era.Heaps of photos in there of what the average woman looked like day to day,i found it really helpful as that is what i was going for as i can't look like the glamourous stars on a regular basis,i just save that more time consuming stuff for special occasions.
I'm sure you will get more helpful info from some of the more knowledgable ladies on here
ETA-Almost forgot,a snood is a great time saver too i think or even just a flower in your hair.

i've seen kids at my daughters school do one sided victory rolls with flowers on the non rolled side.

Sleeping in curlers or pin curls works for me, all you have to do is brush it and maybe add a flower. Also if you have a good handle of rolls, they don't take too long. And of course the aforementioned side part with combs, always easy and pretty.

Hmmm... I usually just do a sleep-in pincurl set or some victory rolls, but I hadn't thought of side combs or snoods

Fringe can give hair a polished finish without any effort curled hair and fringe can be dressed up in many ways.. pretty hair pins, clips, hair flowers.. etc.
