1940's DB jacket with odd lapels

I say odd because of how low they are for the era. This is the 2nd example I've seen, the first being a maroon one that I own. Does anyone know if this look was based off something or what part of the '40s it may be from? I wager late '40s but it doesn't seem "bold" to me.
