I have a fantastic suit that i picked up. I'm offering it here before it goes to eBay. I plan to eBay it this weekend but i really hate selling on eBay so please buy it from me!
It's British, made by a West End London tailor in 1938. Not much else to say about it; it is what it is. The jacket has a relatively rare feature in the outer ticket pocket at the waist level. The construction is fabulous throughout. The cuffs are worn through the first layer of fabric at the rear of the heel (a common problem with vintage menswear). Other than that, essentially perfect. [edit to say that it needs to be cleaned. There are places where the suit is soiled - particularly the jacket. It seems like dirt that will come out in a dry cleaning.) I will upload a picture of the label from the trousers, which very clearly establishes the date, tomorrow.
£130 (GBP) gets the suit. This is way below what they're selling for on ebay right now. If this is your size, i'd say this was a steal. PM wth interest. To ship abroad it will probably have to go in two packages to keep the cost down (prices skyrocket above 2kg weight). It'll go insured and recorded signed for delivery so there will be no problem with losing packages. Paypal will incur a small fee to cover paypal scalping.
Here are the measurements and some photos. More of a US 39L, i guess. Would be worn by a UK 40 chested male of the day. Smaller upper, fat around the middle.
Jacket: One mismatched button (bottom), but i believe i can provide a matching one. No other noted flaws.
Chest: 21"
Arm: 25.5"
Shoulder: 17.5"
Length: 31.5"
Waistcoat: No noted flaws.
Chest: 21.5"
Length (Front): 25.25"
Length (Back): 20.75"
Trousers: Very sculpted "fishtail" back. A bit of wear to the back of the cuff (probably from scuffing on the ground/against back of shoes.
Waist (straight across front): 20.75"
Inseam: 31.5" (appears mismatched One leg seems to be an inch shorter)
Outseam: 43"
Cuff: 9" across, 1.75" deep.
GREAT fabric:
The label on the trousers is very clear and says
Harrison & Martin, Ltd.
Incorporating Anderson & Son
4 S. [Saint] James's Place, S. James's St. SW1
[then in handwritten script]
106 S. (or J?) O. Heywood 31-3-38
No waistband. No watch pocket.
