1930s Jean Advice

Hey Gang,

Got another question for ya'll. I'm split between the 1927 or 1901 LVC. But... from images online, both pair seem pretty narrow legged but I'd like to replicate this basic late 1930s look.



To me these look to be nicely worn jeans, with wide legs. Never seen the VLC stuff in person so maybe I'm just not seeing the jeans correctly. Or, would another type/model/brand of jean be better ???? I had thought perhaps of just the original 501 in bootcut perhaps. I'm really unsure here...

You might want to go for the 1934 Lee repros made by Lee Japan if this pic is the look you want - very 30's cut loose legged, high waisted, work pant cut:

I'm not sure those are jeans, the cuffs on them don't look like jeans cuffs, more like workwear pants or wool pants, but I'm sure that someone can help you find a good pair of wide legged, high waisted jeans that would approximate the cut.

here's that same kind of jeans, with different angles, but it's hard to tell much because they're modeled about 8 inches too long in the leg.

Sure they're even jeans? That definitely looks like a tailored cuff.

OT: Anybody know when and how that chauffeur type cap came to be the symbol of "cyclist"?

Up thru the 30s you still saw a lot of cyclists (maybe not hardcore ) wearing flight helmets, typically with goggles, or just a flat cap.

But by the time this was taken, there was obviously a "biker look." Where did it come from? Langlitz perhaps?

Honestly, I'm not sure they're are jeans.

As for the hat illustrated at bottom, I've read it was a hat that originally Harley-Davidson introduced. Its from then on been called the "Harley-Hat". Jeans? hard to say but they're more than likely work trousers.
Look at the outseam on his thigh. I'm quite sure they're not suit pants.


Buco made a similar cap- I wonder if it was earlier than the HD cap.

That pattern might be a little too drapey and dressy for work pants.
I have several pair of 30's work pants. Some are cotton, some are wool gabardine. The cut is not too different than a pair of flat front khakis, just with a high rise.

actual fit?

I've been trying to find some 30's style jeans for a while, too. I'm considering the Lee 101b jeans, but all the pictures I can find are like the one above with people wearing them about 5 sizes too big. Can anybody post a pic of how they really fit?
