1930s Borsalino

I bought this for some bizarre late night reason. Does anyone want to take it off my hands? Is it good? - serious antique? - Chevalier quality? - load of old tat?

Please advise...

what you have is a size 4(Punti sizing), which equates to UK 6 3/4, or US 6 7/8.

I hope this is your size.
The brim looks like 2 1/4" or less, perhaps.
Some of their hats, even the older ones were of a quality that you might not be able to compare with the other Borsalinos you've seen here- a bit thick and woolly, rather than fine and smooth- the German/Austrian/Tyrolean, hunting/Alpine type of finish.

I have a few Borsalinos dating from the '40s and '50s and also a couple of later ones with low crown and small brim- the felt is thick and rough and lacking any feeling of quality. I hope this one of yours is better but it looks a bit "woolly" to me- not necessarily woollen but... you know.

It could do with a different ribbon treatment.
You'll see what it's like when you get it, I guess.
