Its all that info on the paper label that got me wondering ...

nothing suspect about the paper labels. it seems to have been more of US than a European thing to do though. many of them are wonderfully designed and have amusing bits of info on.
the tiny label you mention reminds me of the card label i took off a Palm Beach tie which had a ton of info on the back (washing intructions) in absolutely tiny print.

I often noticed on the pictures HBK posted that belts were rather popular. When I started getting into vintage word was that suspenders/braces were the norm until the thirties. Clearly this isn't the case. Or maybe a british conservative thing? Formal wear can be deceiving.

looking through my early 20s U.S. catalogues (Sears, Montgomery Ward, Charles Williams) nearly every single pair of trousers has belt loops AND brace buttons... the brace buttons on the inside:

i can't actually find an illustration of U.S. trousers which have brace buttons on the outside (apart from heavy outdoor cords, breeches, workwear etc.)

different story in the UK, where brace buttons on the exterior only was very common through the 20s, 30s and 40s. 1923:

... but belt loops were available too (for the more 'sporty' outfits, or when a waistcoat wouldn't be worn to hide the braces) 1930:

3-button buttoned on the bottom only - interesting.
Also note the white/cream capped shoes of the second fellow. Kind of like a reverse spectator. Or could it be sailcloth?

Yes, the problem with narrow-shoulder 20's cuts: they are for slim bodies only.
the padded shoulders and chests of the 30-40's with nipped waist are better suited for larger guys.

I just noticed something: he is wearing the same shape watch as I am at the moment. He is also wearing a wedding ring and signet ring on his left hand, as am I. So we are hand-twins!

However, today, I'm not as well dressed as he is.
