Nothing looks as good as vintage, even vintage refurbed! Nothing. Beautiful hat, Marc. Meanwhile, this grouper scours the bargain basement for cheap.

Very nice. Looking at the shot of the top, the material looks almost like linen. But then when they are that fine a weave they are supposed to look that way. Congradulations, you are very fortunate.:eusa_clap

Marc-Bravo!

This was in e-bay Canada, wasn't it?

I have been eyeing with that hat too.

A hat body from the heritage of a rich guy or something I remember.

I thought that it would be to good to be true and the other that it won't fit my head.

I am really happy that you won this, mate.

These hats 'find' their worthy owners: accept only true aficionados!

Also: the opening price was very low: a reward for a daring to do gent with hat size.

My 7 5/8 head prevents me from such adventures.

Bravo to Art Fawcett as well!!

Once in a lifetime...

I love your new Montecristi, Marc... The Vintage ribbon you chose to send Art is the perfect style for a 80 plus year old hat. A Novice Hatter would have used a wider ribbon and spoiled the Vintage look...

I'm glad you choose Art Fawcett to block your masterpiece. A true vintage Optimo block I can see was used on your hat with little or no stiffener added to the hat body.

The hatters then and now in Ecuador never use any Stiffener when blocking a Montecristi hat.

I'm sure its very comfortable since it only weighs a ounce or two...

I brought your picture forward...:) :eusa_clap :)

Looks cool, I like it Marc. I have an old one that is very similar (actually it's the one in my avatar.), but unlike yours, mine is a bit "beat up"......got it off of ebay last year....and it used to look even worse, but did a little "shaping" with a bit of steam. I still need to get it fully refurbished, but haven't been able to part with it during these Summer months. I don't know for sure what the WPI is, but the weaves appear to be about half as large as my other Montecristis which I believe are in the 300 to 400 range? You are so right about those vintage fine weaves......LIGHT AS A FEATHER!!!:eusa_clap

Indeed. The black ribbon and bow actually came from another vintage optimo panama hat: my very own Dobbs, sold by "Rogers-Peet" in the 1930s. I asked Art to take the ribbon and bow off of the Dobbs and sew them onto the panama body he blocked. Art then gave the Dobbs a brown ribbon/bow. I'm very happy with it!

(I feel that brown ribbons work well with summertime tan, cream, and light brown jackets and trousers -- whereas black ribbons tend to clash with tan/brown clothes.)
