felt cowboy hat

Hello everyone, I just made my first hat, and it has some really bad white spots and discoloration, I believe from the stiffener. I used dewaxed shellac flakes in alcohol. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of it, or ideas what caused it?

Am considering buying a stetson hat. Looking specifically at the Firenze, Pinnacle or maybe temple. I like the midsize brims, around 2 1/4 inch so probably Firenze. I wonder what the Firenze hat looks like, it is a silk finish. Is it shiny? Some pictures show shininess, others dont so much...
