I’ve had this for some time. It was a 7-1/4, a little snug and the sweat was delicate. I would wear this hat off/on, but not regularly. The sweat finally died, torn in several places. Thanks to a new sweat from Scott, I broke it down, cleaned it, reblocked to 7-3/8, and rebuilt it. Cleaned the...
Thanks. I’ve been wondering that myself. I’ve checked their site a couple times the last 2 months, but haven’t asked them. I’m wanting to get a new silver belly Campdraft to put in Cattleman and was waiting until DM got them.
I’m a consumer. I have lots of hats, but I wear them all, just not all at once. Each hat gets worn. It may sit on the shelf for quite some time, but eventually gets worn. Of course I have my favorite regulars, which change from time to time. Do I have more hats than I need? After all, you can...
Update to this post. After wearing around awhile, the original sweatband started falling apart. It was dry from being old and didn’t survive a sweat or two. So, thanks to a new sweat I acquired from Scott, it’s back to being in the rotation. Nice old hand woven hat!
Straw Resistol “Posse” from Missoula MT. I have many Resistol & Stetson vintage felts, but just ebayed this straw. Really nice straw ( not toquilla, prob shantung), but well made hat. Nice 2 cord ribbon. What gets me is it was original price $5. I’m not familiar with vintage straws as I am...
Got this one in today from Delmonico’s. About 30 min later raised the crown, put in a hand crease, and rolled the front of the brim. Got a little Western flair to this Strat. Seemed like that’s what the hat wanted, so I obliged.
Got it in from Delmonico’s today. About 30 min later this hemp Strat got Westernized with a taller crown and a little curl on the front of the brim. Loving the hemp Stetsons.
Posted this in the Resistol Roundup as well. Didn't have to do much on this conversion, just remove old rotted sweat, steam it on my open crown block to open crown and resize, sew in a reclaimed sweat. Finished it with 1-1/2 in ribbon. The brim was 3, left it flanged as found. It was an old...
Old Resistol Western, melorol, 7-1/8, rotted sweat. Took a 1970's Resistol 3X sweat I had laying around, steamed and reblocked on my vintage 7-1/4 block. Sewed in sweat and applied a 1-1/2 in grosgrain ribbon. Hand creased. Looks like I can wear this one brim up/down. I like em both!
My experiences with Akubras.
Have ~100 hats. Several Akubras. 4 Campdrafts, 2 Fed IV's, A Cattleman, and have had a few others go through my hands that I passed on to others. I wear hats daily and give them hard use, rain or shine. The only Akubra I ever had that had chronic sweat shrinking was...
Uhhh, no. I'm tall, and most of the time-except for an occasional expansive period--rather lanky. I cannot stand short crowns on me. Looks like a worn down eraser on a pencil. He says if you're tall, don't wear a tall crown, makes you look taller. What the Heck is wrong with that!! I I want to...
if I were an old hat, sitting on a shelf or tucked away in an attic, all I would wish is to be placed upon a head. There’s no greater place of honor for an old hat than to be worn.
