    The handwriting of everyday

I am studying to become an engineer (and am definitely below the age of 40). At university (not an apprenticeship, sadly) we are learning the geometric methods with compasses, ruling pens and steel rules. I try to write out my notes and calculations by hand, but definitely won't be using trig...

    Luggage?

I use a hand-held lid-over leather suitcase from I guess around the 30s for travelling. It's fine to carry as long as you don't need to carry it for miles and if you pack relatively lightly. I need to replace the “hinge” leather, because it's cracking. I got the handle “hinge” leather replaced...

Principally you'd find barathea in the form of wool barathea as the body of the suit, I believe.

    Five Star Leather Jackets

I didn't upload any photos, no. This was last year actually, looking back. Here is a cropped photo of the picture Shawn sent me before he shipped it. Cropped to hide a certain identifying feature which I'd rather not show. It's obviously not a a military styled jacket. I am not terribly happy...

    Five Star Leather Jackets

I commissioned an entirely custom suede jacket from Five Star (not a flight jacket). I was quite happy with how it turned out. They do their best.

Double cuffed shirt with attached buttons

I think you're talking about convertible cuffs right? These ones only have one pair of buttonholes, on one side of the cuff. I found this photo which sort of illustrates it. The buttons are on the other side of the top edge. Very true. I was thinking perhaps they were for children (who would...

    Morning coat

I tend to find the rental ones look rather long in the front and somewhat boxy. They don't have the high, fitted waist at least. Could always alter it I suppose.

    Morning coat

Oh I see you mean “festive” as in with silk trim. Are you thinking of the taped edges, like Prince Charles's suit here?

    Morning coat

Why are you getting a morning coat then? They're not exactly cheap, and unlike a dinner suit, you don't even really wear it indoors, unless you're a butler I suppose. And if you get a “festive” one, it wouldn't be appropriate to wear outdoors at an actual morning dress function anyway.

Double cuffed shirt with attached buttons

Perhaps a rather unsavoury topic, but nevertheless: I was looking at WW2 German shirts and noticed that some, specifically the 'brown shirts' had turnback double cuffs. More interesting was that they had an attached button. I can't find a good picture of it right now, unfortunately. Were these...

    How is grosgrain lapel made???

It is from grosgrain 'cloth'. It isn't ribbon weight, I don't think.

    The handwriting of everyday

I'm pretty sure we still teach cursive in Victoria (Australia). At least they did a four or five years ago. It's a rather nasty cursive though which looks rather childish. A modernised copperplate script would seem more useful, being somewhat closer to print anyway.

    Starching Detachable Collars

I have had good success with starching collars with plain laundry starch (rice starch would probably work better) mixed with cold water and a pea-sized lump of borax dissolved in some hot water from the tap. The important thing I have found is that the collar must not have any fusible...
