I'm glad you asked about Gibson & Barnes. To make a long story a little short, after literally years of study and prevarication, I bought a G-1 from them.
To sum it up, I love the thing. I wear it in the house at night instead of a sweater, I love it so much.
I wear a 42S or 44S suitcoat. I...
I dunno. You've put a lot of money in this, though, and it ought to be right from the start. I don't know how many times I've liked something that didn't really fit, and I'd say, "It'll stretch," or, "I'll lose weight," or, "The sleeves will shorten with creasing," and in truth, none of that...
I asked Flying-Jacket.com if the jacket was an approved item of clothing for Fleet Air Arm aviators, and received this in reply:
"The FAA jacket is approved by the Fleet Air Arm and forms part of their official uniform, which includes the Velcro patch. As the Velcro patch is part of the...
Ah, ha! So you're saying they may be the same as some of our companies who claim to have supplied the USN, USCG, and Greater Topeka Girl Scout Council?
Has anyone experience with this jacket?

It's the British Fleet Air Arm (Naval Aviation) authorized jacket. It is shown in this photo with a Velcro patch for ID attachment, but the civilian...
Well, sounds like the consensus is against the collar stand. Thanks, all, for your comments. Since I have a short neck, too, I guess the no-collar-stand is the better choice.
I've done a lot of research on collar stands. I understand what an why, but I have not seen anything near a consensus on them.
If you had a choice between a jacket with a collar stand and one without, which would you take?
Specifically, if you had a choice between a replica A-2 Mark 41...
I have to weigh in with the whole fit issue. I know, right off the bat, that for those who can pay a thousand bucks for a jacket, you want the thing to fit like you want. Nothing wrong with that. It's the perpetual seek for perfection.
I was, to quote a Peter Sellers movie, not always as you...
Amen, Kasper, and well said.
I'm with you. My last barn jacket was an LL Bean, and I wore the thing until my elbows were sticking out. It had a decade of manure and lamb birthing fluids crusted on it, and I loved that jacket. It had a stain on it that was from Spokie's difficult birth years...
It's a sickness, and the damned internet tubes feed it for me.
I've been through this with boats, firearms, guitars...eventually I decide I've spent enough money (meaning, my wife asks me what the f is going on) and settle on what I have.
But I think the search for the ultimate is engrained in...
OK, I know I'm stirring a hornets' nest here, but what the heck.
From reviewing about three millennia of photos on this site, I note that people like a tight-fitting jacket, for the most part. A-2s and G-1s that I have seen are usually pretty trimly fit.
Well, I have to disagree...
