When was this? My friends and I saw this in an old Schenectady in May of '08. The organist told great stories afterward, and a lovely time was had by all. Perhaps it was the same guy?
Working in a major bookstore, I can safely say that this is 100% true. If I had a dollar for every woman that comes in specifically to buy whatever was on Oprah that day, I'd be a rich woman. Makes you wanna scream, really. No one wants to go to the trouble of browsing around and choosing...
I read Jane Eyre when I was fifteen, and I've been in love with Mr. Rochester ever since.
Jay Gatsby and John Thornton (North & South) vie for a close second.
I was directed to this article due to the fact that it talks about the very real possibility of Borders Books disappearing by 2010. (I work for Barnes & Noble.) However, it also mentions that Esquire will most likely be gone by then as well. What a shame. Perhaps they should have gone the Maxim...
Yesterday, I was lucky enough to be handed an Advance Reader's Copy of the new novel from Carlos Ruiz Zafon, who wrote Shadow of the Wind. It's calledThe Angel's Game, and I couldn't be more excited about a new book from an old favorite.
I saw this today, and I think it has great potential.

I just started The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littel. He wrote it in French a few years back, and it won a slew of awards in Europe. Briefly, it's about the life of a Nazi during and after WWII. It's a doorstop, so we'll see how long it takes me to get through it. Wish me luck!
I also just bought an antique typewriter, and I was able to buy ribbon for it at Office max. I don't know what office supply stores you have over there, but they'll probably have it as well. If not, you could always get it online.
You have awesome taste. WofD was the first foreign film I ever saw, and it is something I still watch regularly.
I'd like to put Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast on the list. For my money, it's the most beautiful B&W film I've ever seen.
