I have his book. It is a great read. Schwarz is good writer. And, infinitely cheaper than Elegance Under Canvas which I will buy as soon as I can find one at a semi reasonable price.
I have traveled to many parts of eastern Europe to teach former Soviet Bloc forces and I could swear I have stayed in that hotel! I know it really was a mall in Germany but there have been several I stayed in that would have served well for the soul less modern version. Still, I enjoyed staying...
My darling bride of many years is a Maine-uh. She grew up on timber tract near Lincoln. Not a lot of dough in logging in those days. Good thing she was a smarty pants! When she applied for grad school she found that the lower the school was in national standings the more they offered in student...
Kudu and warthog were taken with Mauser M03 in 375 H&H. Great rifle. It is a switch barrel and you only loosen two captured screws (cant lose 'em!) to break down. Goes back to zero every time. Ostrich and Gemsbok were taken with 7mm mag. Namibia tends toward long, longer and looooonggg range...
Damaraland, Namibia
There is a wooden crate sitting in the hold of the slowest tramp steamer plying it's trade across the southern Atlantic making it's way to Texas. Soon I will by strong arming a crowbar to rediscover some trophies I left behind. While the good lady wife has a "No Eyeballs in...

After I finish my roorkhee chairs, it is next on my list!
Boyds makes a replacement butt stock that has a more conventional cheek height and grip. Fore stocks can be had from ebay, Numrich's, etc. There new ones made in the UK but are not cheap!
I shoot two Ishapore Mark 2a rifles which are 7.62 NATO from the factory (not rechambered.) One is stock...
I work and hunt in Africa. I most highly recommend 511 tactical shirts and trousers. The shirts are tough, functional and have the right pockets in the right places. The trousers are the most comfortable I have ever worn in the field, period. I prefer the heavier cotton in both but it is getting...
Speaking of sunday drives...
My darling bride and I do long range expeditions as well as Sunday drives. It is our great pleasure to get in the car/Land Rover/Hummer H1/monster truck, or whatever is handy and pick a direction and just go. For entertainment Herself brings a book and reads out...
I was stationed at RAF Molesworth from '99 through '13! I know the greenlanes there very well. Most of my lane bashing was in old Series Landies. I do miss it now that I have repatriated back stateside!
I just had this conversation with my 20 yo son. I am teach intelligence to US, NATO, European and African partner military forces. He says to me, "Dad, I can't imagine ever being as successful as you..." I reflected for a moment on how I got here. I ended up telling him the truth; I could not...
A man should know what his last message is. My parting message to my darling bride of many decades would be from Dave Carter's When I Go.
"and should you glimpse my wand'rin form out on the borderline
between death and resurrection and the council of the pines
do not worry for my comfort, do...
It would be a love/hate affair; I would miss fast international travel. I would love the slow going elegance of ocean liners and early airlines (especially if I could afford travel in First!) but I would really miss being able to get to Europe or Africa within 24 hrs start to finish.
Same thing then as now, naval intelligence. And then after the war, back to Africa. The animals may have Ph.D.'s in people pounding but at least they don't have 16 inch guns.
