    Berets, Anyone?

in summer you need a cotton beret, I tried a wool beret but it is too hot most of the time. Which brings me to the point, I still have not found a perfect cotton beret... I like Arandu's crochet ones, but they run small for summer, I would like something with a larger 'vuelo' to provide more...

    Berets, Anyone?

Thanks for the info! I am in a slow cold war with 'someone' who thinks small berets look nicer, whereas I like large berets because they are more practical. That means I can always say I am shrinking (a little bit) a larger beret by using it!

Out of curiosity, how much do the Elosegui shrink?

I am just poorly literate, and I just use 'cabillu' (which I might be mispelling) for all my berets, most of which are actually boinas vascas. I use the label to put the boina on, so the cabillu ends point somewhere back, but at an angle

I noticed that the cabillu (or whatever people call it) tends to point back, but not square with the label (for all my berets). It is noticeable enough that I, well, noticed it, and not bothersome enough that it bothers me. It never points forward though, so I assume it is intentional.

    Baking soda does the same.

Let me add, I find the wool feels quite different in the two. I personally find the Ano 1868 is noticeably smoother against my skin (this is true of all Elosegui berets). Elosegui berets are also massively stiff and take next to a year before getting soft.

In my experience (own both), I have seen next to 0 shrinkage in use, inclusive of rain.

    Berets, Anyone?

I got this in early 2021 from Arandu, and I have not worn it yet (I have a grey one I prefer). It is technically spanking new, never worn, never washed, and it is well smaller than 30cm in diameter! Note I am not complaining if the newer ones are bigger, I prefer a 29/30cm beret size, I find...

    Berets, Anyone?

Hei, have the Boinas Arandu crochet grown in size? They are advertised as 30cm in diameter, but the ones I got last year are 27cm at most.

    Berets, Anyone?

Does anyone have any experience with a Scottish Tam? I think they are made on a much smaller scale, so I am not aware of any 'brand'. They also seem to be felted much more loosely than continental berets, so I wonder how weatherproof they are (alternatively, since the weather in Scotland is...

Tested, same approach works also for walking.

    Berets, Anyone?

Keeping your ears warm. In the interest of empirical testing I went cross country skiing at -11C with a super lujo and a Buff merino neck tube (I cut off the label and I do not remember if it meant to be heavy or light wool thickness, and it is the only one I have). I pulled the tube up over...

    Berets, Anyone?

I have both. In terms of felt I do not perceive any difference in density and stiffness. I prefer the felt only boinas, but when I was testing whether to go with a leather headband or not I noticed that the best ones (by a mile) are from the Boneteria Aluoronesa.

    Berets, Anyone?

My story of why a started wearing a beret is simple. My wife told me to get a flat cap, but, after brexit I wanted to wear an European hat. Enters the beret. I was really taken by how convenient and versatile a beret or a boina are. The end.

    Berets, Anyone?

Questions: are you wearing any other hat? I am hat man, but since I started wearing berets/boinas I have abandoned all other hats but one (my ushanka which I use when it is below -5C). I love my akubras and tilleys, but I have never worn them any more after switching, and I doubt I will wear...

    Berets, Anyone?

'Multi-piece' berets, that is, berets sawn together from a top and a bottom piece (such as this one: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g9-7uiGHPjM/T-pYfI5lE7I/AAAAAAAALUk/Kelg2ybkMPw/s1600/Estampa+antiga.jpg). I can see it would be easier to build from cloth should one want to do so, but I was...
