My new Camp Draft in black arrived recently. To be honest, I am not all that impressed. It is a very stiff hat - more like a bowler or a Stetson cowboy hat than the Akubra Camp Drafts that we had come to admire and expect in the past. Was hard to work and the brim was a bit smaller than the...
I am looking at ordering an Akubra military slouch but would like to know how the sizes compare to their CampDraft.
I wear a 58 in the CampDraft and that is perfect for me.
Order the same in the military slouch?
Akubra CampDraft in black. (So what abbreviation are we using for these? BKCD?)
I once said that if these were made, I would get one. Now the wait begins!
Might need to call and beg Sam.
Everything Australian.
I have an old BGCD which I use while doing bird photography. It has accumulated some stains from over ripe elderberries. I was wondering if a naphtha bath would clean those stains. It needs regular cleaning anyway, but I might need to do something about the berry stains first.

Okay, I am late to the game, but wanted to give a few comments.
I carried a sidearm daily and needed a good sturdy belt that would hold up to decades of abuse. These were very expensive, so I started making my own and learned a few lessons.

I would think that a SilverBelly CampDraft with the edge binding removed would be very close. The brim would be wide enough and the crown should make the desired shape. The only issue would be ironing or flanging the desired shape to the crown which is slightly flanged.

Be aware that there are two different types of Akubra hat under the name "Adventurer" One is similar to the Fed IV and the other is more like a "Coober Pedy."
It is not a happy thing to expect one and receive the other...

I wear felt almost year round in southeast Louisiana. It gets a bit warm at times, but I generally like those hats. However, if I am working in the yard, I will shift to a straw or Tilley.

They sent me a poorly manufactured hat in the past. It was not properly pounced by Akubra so that an elliptical shadow line was visible all around the hat band. This was sent to me without any examination before being shipped internationally. In fairness, I was offered the option of paying the...
