It is for a sword belt to be worn during formal ceremonies. The hook to attach the sword would stick out through this side entry. This pic is not of a Bridge Coat, but it's a good example how the sword is worn.
I wonder if the DSCP tag was removed? Mine was made in 2001 and it has the label. All the Junior Officers jackets at the squadron that have been issued in the last 6 to 10 years have the DSCP tag.
It's not a repro, It's my issued jacket. In the four squadrons I have been in, none of them had issues with us flying with our issued G-1s. Of course I never wore it when I was stationed in Guam.

I know that the Cockpit G-1 is sold in the Navy Exchange (NEX) stores. Maybe that is what they mean by "supplied to the U.S. Navy." I have never seen an issued G-1 from Cockpit.
