Exactly my experience too. The first really big test heat-wise was in China, then last May I spent a week in Bangalore and discovered there just how much more comfortable I was in extreme heat in an undershirt and ss shirt as opposed to a t-shirt. Or, more to the point, as opposed to a shirt...
Interestingly, although slightly :offtopic: I have just found a menswear advert from England dated I think 1940. It shows three men in suits. One is in a pinstripe, I think red/white and blue, the other in a check of the same colours and the third, well he has the checked jacket and the...
This does look great. I also hope they do it again, perhaps a few times a year would be good. It looks like they have had some very good events on recently in London!
Yes, I think you are right Warden, I am not even sure what that bag is, however, I suspect they were actors, not living...
I think this phenomenon is worse when you are a man. One of the looks I like is the 1930s Sports jacket, Flannels, tie and jumper/pullover.
Being that men do not really change their style, most old men wear .... Sports jacket, Flannels, tie and jumper/pullover.
So, people do not think I...
I think George Orwell managed to look objectively at society and realise the extent of poverty and deprivation that existed across the country. It becomes apparent that when reading books like Road to Wigan Pier that people were aware that life was actually not that good, but tended to except...
I'd like opinions, thoughts on this one. In person it seems terribly old and wonderful. I wore it tonight with an 80 year old Stetson No. 1 Quality western felt. :)
Not really my area of expertise, but a few observations. I think it is possibly a home made shirt, certainly...
I have to agree with others on this thread. I think I have said this a few times before as well!
For most of us it would be a huge shock to live in the past. Unless you were wealthy, life was hard. We had little equality, working conditions even for those in higher paid jobs were not good...
Fake is a little misleading.
I think it is possibly just a generic striped tie with a regimental theme, You do see a lot with nautical themes on.
Kindest Regards

Hello Andrew,
I thought it was a very good and moving depiction of his part in the BoB. I think a lot of the airfield scenes were shot at Twinwoods. I know others on this forum should be able to expand further as there were some familiar faces.
Kindest regards

Hi Paddy,
I would look for an original of I were you. I have a couple of wartime bell tents, bought for a donation to a scout troop funds. Granted, they will not last as long as a modern reproduction, but, most military tents had a rot proofing applied to the canvas, and in the 14 years of...
Interestingly I have seen it being referred to as the Daily Hate well before WW2, so they have always been the same.
As for the article, it is the usual mainstream view on vintage. It is really just a buzz word, not a lifestyle or a passion in the general world.
Which is good in many...
It was almost identicaql Baron I think the pin was narrower though, although no label apart from the CC41 denoting the cloth (Obviously not an Austerity pattern suit!!)
As for the purpose, I would imagine it was style as much as anything else. Men did remove their jackets whilst at work, and...
Have a look through this thread.

Remember, fashion and functionality do not always go hand in hand. It in reality would be superfluous to have a peaked lapel waistcoat, but, the prevailing style and fashion dictated otherwise.
The costumes...
I know very little, very little indeed. I do feel though most of the original suits I have come across from the 1930s with double breasted waistcoats have peaked lapels.

A CC41 suit.
