    The Cap Faction

Hanna linen cap floppy after dry cleaning Hi. Perhaps someone can help me here: I have a Hanna linen flat cap which, after dry cleaning (allowable according to the label), has lost its shape and become rather floppy. Before the cleaning, it was rather firm to the touch and kept its shape very...

The Hardy Boys: Secret of the Old Mill

I agree - the blue covers from the 60's are the classics for me as well. I do have a few of the books with the brown binding - the slip covers are long gone though. Ken

What do you use to shave?

Derbys for me - less than $20 for 100m on the bay. I get about a week out one, but I have a mustache and goatee - and my facial hair is very light on the cheeks. Ken

Oh I would never do it to a hat of mine - even if it were designed for it. I was just curious about it. Ken

    Panama Hat Thread

I very much appreciate the answers! So much so, that I will impose with another noobie question. I have heard about Panamas being foldable, but had no idea exactly how they were folded until I came across a picture in the forum - basically lengthwise with the brim forming a kind of clamshell...

    Panama Hat Thread

Curious noob here. Does that style have a name? I assume that the crown is not an Optimo as it has no ridge. Am I correct in my understanding that "Optimo" refers only to the crown style and an Optimo hat can have a variety of brim widths? Thanks Ken

Thanks for the answers! When I called the Optimo "unusual," I meant in a good way. My wife thought it looked a bit like a safari hat. Whenever I develop an interest in something, I always seek out the classic designs or definitive examples. This seems to be one of those for Panama hats. Ken

Cuenca vs. Monte at Panama Bob's Greetings all, If one is planning to spend $150 or so on a Panama Bob hat, is that money better spent on one of the mid-range to nicer Cuencas or a lower-end Montecristi? I am thinking along the lines of an Extra-Fino Llano Cuenca vs. either a Medio Fino or...

Hello all! A few years ago I began to wear caps (after cutting my hair very short). Like most Americans I started wearing ball caps - but that style really wasn't for me. So I recently began to wear flat caps. I've built up a very small collection of Irish-made caps and was looking to expand...
