A Winnah
We interrupt all the fascinating posts about negative and positive feedback (and I read them all so I must have been fascinated) to show a hat that was won today.
Another Open Road
Ok, that's #2 for the week. I shall rest until Saturday and let everyone else have some fun...
Wanted: Stetson Open Road with Fedora bash in gray with the wind cord. I'm a 7 3/8. I"ll also consider a Akubra Campdraft in Taupe Fawn. PM for email to send pictures
Thanks
Merrill
Casa Magna
Hey! I smoked two of those last week. Store up in Macon has a couple of boxes and I pick up a few when I am in town. I didn't know the things were scarce...
Colibri
I read that the Colibri company went out of business -- just bankrupted and closed the doors. Maybe it had to do with all the warranty business they had to do.
I have used the same duo burner Colibri for four years. Only had to send it in once when then kids stole it out of my case...
Thanks
Thanks! I got this from the Wall Street Journal Column by Eric Felton. He's a maniac about getting back to the roots of a drink. The Martini with orange bitters that he touts as also being an original is darned tasty!
Tonight's Burnt Offering
Tonight a CAO Black. It is an exclusive for Cigar's International. Has the same earthy taste I get from an Aroma of Cuba, Genuine Counterfeit Cuban, Man of War, and most of the Perdomo's. For the price, a very nice smoke.
All Those XXX's
Sorry to be such a noob, but it seems that the more I read on this site the higher the xxx's become. We have 2x and 3x and 5x and now 7x. Obviously, the x is a discrete amount of beaver fir or density. Is it a linear progression or a proportionate one? At what point does the...
Fedora OCD
I'm just blown away on all the passion spent to reproduce a hat! While I like the look of the Indiana hat on Indy, I don't really want to wear it myself. Maybe I'm too egotistical, but I'd rather look like me... might as well 'cause no one else sure wants to look like me!
a very nice looking one. Something about the high crown just begs for a longer brim to balance things out. At 6'5", 250#, and 7 3/8 I look just silly in a brim smaller than 2.5" -- which makes scoring a hat on ebay almost impossible!
They grade the closeness and quality of the weave. Above Grade 15 things get VERY pricey. I held a $2,500 hat when in the St Augustine store. The brim felt like fine linen. It took the weaver three months to make.
Thanks for the props on the bow-tie. I have a lot of them! The shot below was...
I use plain old wet wipes for my straw hats. At the end of the day, give the outside and inside a good cleaning with three or four of the things where your sweat has wet and dried. The wipe does not get the hat wet enough to matter and the surfactant in the wipe picks up the salt.
You can...
Last Night
A classic Manhattan made with rye, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters. Stirred, not shaken and poured into a martini glass fresh from the freezer. Paired it with a Romeo 1875 cigar after a Fillet Mignon dinner and grilled potatoes that had been infused with garlic and rosemary...
St Augustine Hat
Today's hat shot with a cellphone camera in the backyard at lunch. This is from the Panama Hat Company of St Augustine. Their standard Panama Fedora with an optional larger black band. I have several other silk bands so I can change things up when I like.
The brim is...
Shopping in Person
I would prefer to shop in person, but there are no shops carrying hats like we all like in South Georgia. It is either caps or cowboys or something made of velour in unspeakable colors.
I do know a shop in St Augustine that carries a good line and I check them out when I...
