Nice photos, very authentic looking!
The kitchen photos also on that webpage are striking: Is this still your house or another house?

Amen Phil. That whole scene turned me off to rap which I grew up with (starting with the Sugar Hill Gang), but luckily I turned to the other style of music my granddad had piqued my interest in as a kid, 30s-40s swing. Which spread to golden era movies, and now an interest in the whole...
Luckily it seems that whole scene is dying out, at least around here, gangsta is being played on the radio less and less. Why didn't mainstream America pick up back in the '90s on the _artistic_ rap music being put out by the likes of De La Soul instead of gangsta?
Interesting article...
:eusa_clap Lady said it, so I don't have to.
Personally, growing up, having had to dress from time to time in the "thrift store look" of 2nd-hand shirts & tattered jeans when it was Definitely Not Cool, makes me laugh when I see folks doing it now. I've made a point since graduating &...
That is just Hilarious about the Clicquot Club Eskimos! Had no idea they were a promotional band when they started - I have a couple of their commercial records on Domino (example below - how cool is that sleeve design) where they're just playing great straight ahead hot jazz dance music from...
I kept hearing folks on this board always talking about Moras Modern Rhythmists, always seeing their name advertised for CA events... Just went to the website, checking out the audio clips: WOW! They sound Great! just might have to break my "I Quit" rule, and buy another swing CD...

This is the first movie I saw either Cary Grant, or Katherine Hepburn in, sometime in high school - Fell in love with Hepburn right away, still always think of her in that role with that ripped dress, and Grant's been a favorite since. And just within the last year, was elated to discover...
CICADAs in the summer - reminds me of visiting my grandparents' house in Virginia Beach as a kid. (never lived close enough to woods to hear them too much myself)

$7 from Amazon.com for a bottle that will probably last through your entire collection. (Lasted me for about 500, need another now.)

I started out very gingerly washing 78s. But records kept...
Sefton,
Some enthusiasts may reply to this & warn you never to let 78s touch water ever. (That is true of the 1/4" thick Edison Diamond Discs, and of already-majorly-damaged laminated Columbia's.)
I use what the Library of Congress uses on 78s: Kodak Fotoflo solution...
Swee-ee-eet! Nice Work (if you can get it), Mr. Brown. That "Glenn Miller Story" set on 78s, that was from 1953, 78 copies of that must be scarce, most everyone was converting to LPs and 45s by then (I have the 10-inch Lp with same cover).
Stan Kenton is a Favorite! His 40s stuff is the...
Those are sweet choices, Root - and AMI had the most mechnically sturdy and reliable mechanisms of the Golden Era (one reason why I chose their 1949 model), although their cabinetry wasn't just quite as showy as the bigger selling Rockolas and Wurlitzers. AMI was also the first maker to offer a...
First noticed Dunst in "The Cat's Meow" :D :D :D :D Made a point to catch most of her movies since then.
Looking forward to this one. The stills look great.

There was a 1936 non-lightup Wurlitzer which looked worked fine except the amp was silent (probably was fully restored and a tube came loose in transit), sold for $600 at a local coin-op auction about 5 yrs back (before I feld like I could afford such things).
When I was record collecting...
Thanks VintageJess, Sure enough- that's the one. Looks like I got it somehow (?) but just haven't watched it lol Thanks, looking forward to it!

Sounds neat. Looked on our local PBS station's schedule, both this past Wednesday (last) night and every day into next week, and that show was not found. I pulled every show with the word "America" and there was nothing related to the golden era.
Can you give us a description of the...
