    Keeping off The Frizz

It's interesting you say that because the only way I've ever previously been able to get smooth hair has been by using a heated appliance like a curling iron or flat iron, and even though I'm pleased with the results of the Vo5 and end papers, the smoothness I get like that is nowhere near what...

    Show us your hair do's....

All these redheads are making me itch to go back to it! It's such high upkeep that I abandoned it a few years ago and have stuck with browns in my natural shade. If I had straight hair, I would SO have Betty bangs. Beth, I like your soft waves and it looks great to me.I love the S-shaped wave...

    Keeping off The Frizz

Reviving this thread a bit because I've been fighting frizz and static something awful and have finally had a breakthrough. I used end papers last night as I rolled my hair into sponge rollers. I also used a tiny dab of Alberto's Vo5 hairdressing cream this morning, and wow! Much, much smoother...

What about us naturally curly girls?

MissViolet, I agree with everything you've said about messing up curl pattern and only touching my curls when wet - when I am wearing my hair naturally (aka present era). But that is so not vintage looking on me, however. I own Curl Talk and have utilized many of the tips there for years because...

What about us naturally curly girls?

Frizz fest Thought I would post my woes here since I have naturally curly hair and have blamed frizz on the curls since childhood. I used rag/foam rollers last night, used smoothing cream and a setting lotion as usual. Took out the curls this morning and started brushing like mad. 30 min...

    What are you wearing today??

!!!!!!! LaMedicine, I LOOOOVVEEEE this!! I've been nuts about kimono since I was a teen. This is beautiful, just gorgeous!!!

    Show us your hair do's....

BoPeep, what cute curls. I love the one in the front. I love this thread, and like seeing all the styles. Is there a thread that shows what pattern everyone sets their rollers/pin curls in? I'm having a hair don't day though, and I blame it on the way I set my hair last night. I can't ever...

How to get pale, luminous skin?

Tammylynn, nothing you buy off the shelf in the U.S. is going to have more than 2% hydroquinone - a proven skin-lightener. (It works by gradually decreasing the presence of melanin-producing bits in skin cells, and therefore takes time while working through the natural process of cell turnover)...

Vintage Style Reference in Vernacular Photographs

This colorization process was done with simple oil paints rubbed onto a black and white photograph. My high school photography teacher taught it to me. You would add colors to sections and 'buff' it away until you got a shade you liked. Then it was left to dry and you had something like this...

How often do you "set" your hair?

And I am so glad you do! That line I posted is from an old Pink Floyd song, and before the internet, I always wondered who Vera Lynn was. I had forgotten all about that line until you posted her photo and brought it back to my memory.

How often do you "set" your hair?

Miss Tuppence, great job! It looks just as good in the latter photo as in the beginning one. Thank you for explaining. I'll have to try this on a weekend. I'm not too daring during the week with work. Your hair looks fantastic. (♪...Does any-body here remember Vera Lynn...? ♫)

How often do you "set" your hair?

At risk of asking the obvious, when you say you can go a whole week on one set, do you mean you only curl your hair one time and then sleep the other nights on your hair without anything in it/on it? And it doesn't wreck the style? No tangles or frizzes? Do you wrap it in a silk scarf or something?

    Vintage eyebrow shapes

I have Cosios Eyebrow book and it's a great resource for deciding what look to get, and how eyebrows evolved through fashion. But I want to sound off on the tattooing. I may be in the minority, but I know a woman who had this done and I didn't care for it on her. From a distance and front-on, it...

    What powder, foundation..

A poll would've been useful My foundation staples are Bare Escentuals in the winter for near flawless skin, and Revlon's Colorstay Active liquid in the summer because it's almost completely sweat-proof. And speaking of summer, Ben Nye makes a great cream foundation that IS sweat proof and lasts...

What is your personal 'No-No' for makeup, hair, & wardrobe?

LinaSofia, I love the idea of only wearing swing skirts and dresses instead of pants - but how did you acquire enough to keep it varied? I haven't really found anything affordable in my local area, and of course there are things online but often the price is such that having a closet full would...

Oh, the Stigma of an Astigmatism. . .

Thank you for posting, Penny Dreadful, those are very cute. I think need to look through some photos of 40s-style frames to see just how close I can get with a modern pair. I'm very nearsighted so that limits my frame selections too due to thickness of lens.

    Show us your hair do's....

I think it's very cute, and you should definitely wear it out of the house. Your face shape looks kind of oval or heart though - and you've got great cheekbones. No need to counteract 'roundness' or anything negative. You look lovely!

Flowers In My Hair: Style and Etiquette

Resurrecting this thread somewhat. I'm itching to wear a flower in my hair but just haven't mustered up the nerve yet. Do many of you here wear out-of-season flowers in your hair, or make up some other kinds of foliage hair accessories?

    The Middy Thread

Kamikat, I like the color of your hair, and the curls. Very pretty on you.

Oh, the Stigma of an Astigmatism. . .

I'm so glad I've found this. I've been wondering about what frames I'll get when it's time to get my eyes checked again, and this thread helps give me ideas and places to look. I think I've got an old pair of my mother's cat eye frames somewhere too - gonna have to dig them out and see how they...
