I can imagine a time in the future where someone will be surprised to learn that in the past people were paying up to $50 to go on a date just for movie tickets, popcorn and soda. They will think we were foolish to do this just to see some movie that was *marketed* as something you should see.

Do you mean classical latin? That is mostly the letters in English today. Latin was always printed, however. The concept of cursive latin writing would be lost upon anyone from historical times who actually read or wrote latin.
If this was on television, of course they will focus on the people who don't remember the year. It isn't interesting that most people do know that 9/11 occurred in 2001. Street interviews are not a good sampling method.
