Some great hats, Gary. Particularly love the Resistol. I think the folks of your neighbourhood deserve to see it in the daylight.
I'd love to be able to see the rugby here.
Thanks again. It’s 10cm
Extremely conspicuous, particularly in combination with that poncho.
No, I haven’t trimmed it. I think it came out of storage a bit folded. I need to sort that out
...feel very conspicuous in it in Japan (there are areas of Thailand where it would fit right in, however).
Did you trim the ribbon on your Campdraft? The photo looks like you might have. The long ribbon is my one complaint with those models.
If you did trim it, did you have any fraying issues?
I always figure my neighbors get a laugh.. here he comes putting out the trash or getting the mail with his hat and shorts/pjs/sweats. LOL
I gotta say… she is right! Looks VERY natural in those photos.
Now you're talkin'. That Resistol actually looks natural on you. I think I like that Western on you better than the hats your other pics. Westerns seem to suit you well. You need more of them. You're a natural for the Westerns! You've got that bad guy cool factor going on! (Pictured: Scott...
...I’ve caught up now, and man, there have been some stunners of late.
Here are a few I’ve been wearing in the last few days…
A silverbelly Campdraft for a visit to the fish market.
A Lagomarsino nutria for work…
A navy Borsalino, also for work…
Today I wore my Fed IV to work, but didn’t get...
Thanks for the link, I look forward to reading it. Oddly enough, I see only one photo in the whole thread of a Lightning Ridge. I’m curious if the felt is more like a heritage Campdraft or more like a heritage Fed IV/Banjo.
...at home following afternoon errands, under the brim of the heritage SBCD. It is a darn lovely day out there, friends.
Indoors or out, this Campdraft has everything I need in a full-time cranium companion: it is rugged, comfortable, light-colored, attractive and fun to wear, plus has a very...
I decided against it because the FED IV bow is more lackluster than the Campdraft ribbon. The bow is a dull brown but the ribbon has a copper hue that I prefer. But I agree that the Campdraft is attractive with a bow!
...Road for sale on eBay right now made by Akubra. A fascinating piece of history that - including (in my opinion) how it looks exactly like a Campdraft (I do realize the Campdraft was the Australian Open Road but I expected it to have looked back then more like the Open Road we have known all...
That bluegrass green is a thing of true beauty. I need to get me one of those; would love to pair that with a big, boxy early 50s-style two-piece suit....
That jives with my experience. Bought my Campdraft Deluxe about twelve years ago, have had two MkIII & Two Mk IV Feds. FWIW, the difference between the Campdraft and the Fed crowns to my eye is about as marked as the difference between a MkIII & MkIV Fed, i.e. it's kinda there if you look for...
Okay, time to queue up the visual aids. My Campdrafts on top, my Fed IVs below:
To my eyes the Campdraft crowns are slightly more tapered than the Fed IVs, but you all can decide for yourselves.
The Campdraft does not have a dimensional brim and the crown has minimal taper. I’m not sure if the Campdraft or the Fed has more taper or it they are the same. I had a Campdraft with an aftermarket 1.5” wide ribbon that would approximate what you are going for. It looked good, but if you are...
...specific about proportions, etc. if you're not comparing hats of exactly the same size. Here's the two hats as described by The Hattery, for easier comparison:
