    Gardens vegetable, flower or other?

You're lucky you live somewhere with alot of rain Paddy. Otherwise, with all the time you spend traveling the world, all your plants would be dead! That's what happens when you live in Southern California, and you travel.

    Show us what you've made!

Wow, Lorena B, very impressive, without a pattern or directions! Good going! Looks great. Lauren, what you do is always so impressive. You must have SO much patience. The details are always just amazing. Every new outfit I make I say I'm going to be patient and try to make it perfect and end up...

    anyone wear grey hair?

I gave up dyeing mine. It was a pain having roots to worry about, and my hair was always dry and damaged from the coloring. I suppose I would look 10 years younger with brown hair but that means I would look 50. Now if dyeing it would make me look 35 it would be worth it, but it's not worth it...

    So through with COOL!

The expression bitchin' was big when I was in Junior High, and the first time I used it at home my parents were ready to punish me for using it. Luckily my older brother who was in High School explained to them that it was not cussing but a common slang word. Older brothers can be cool!

    1940s wardrobe essentials

OOH, OOH, OOH! I came across these reproduction patterns and they have the underwear! Plus suits, men's sweaters, dresses, etc. http://stores.ebay.com/Iva-Rose-Vintage-Reproductions_1930s-Fashion_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ15894564QQftidZ2QQpZ2QQtZkm

    Nothing but Seamed Stockings

Thanks LD, that explains why my modern same-color-seam hardly shows, but the black seam was too black. I think the black seam might not look right on an old lady, even though I like them. What do you think? I was musing to my daughter that I ought to get the seams tattooed on, to save money, and...

    Early electric appliance museum

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.linnell/sso/index.html My apologies if this has been preiviously posted, but I ran across this site while looking up an odd electric device I recently acquired (turned out to be a portable pants creaser). It's a "museum" of early electric appliances, 20's -50s...

    Feed sacks, who knew???

I recall a story about a teenager who was invited to a fancy party. Her mother made the fanciest dress she could - out of feed sacks. The girl was thrilled with her new dress until she got to the party. She was mortified because she was the only one who was wearing a feed sack dress at the party...

    Black Christmas cards

I think they are delightfully different. Just a smidge eccentric. I would rather receive one of your cards than a "comic" card showing Santa's butt-crack. (Oops, too vulgar for FL? Edit as needed) errr...the narrow Y shaped area separating the twin, fat filled protuberences on Santa's posterior...

    Vintage Buttons Yay!!

I'd like you to know LD that when I first started sewing from Vintage patterns it never occurred to me to look for vintage buttons until you put a link at the end of a post to photos of your buttons. That led me to buttons (and buckles) on E-bay and need I go on? You KNOW what that has led to...

    Hilarious New Mystery Book Series

The author ought to give you a cut...but with everyone buying them for a few cents I guess that wouldn't be worth much! I just ordered mine from Amazon. Sounds amusing.

    Calling all Rustics!

I guess the answer to your original question must be no...there is no one even on FL who is as passionate and dedicated to the past as you are. But you are an inspiration to anyone who would like to live like you do but thinks they can't do it. I'm always impressed by how perfect you look from...

Ok, Jt Carrey this is what you need to help date your patterns. Click on the pattern company and you'll get more info on the numbers and the graphic style of each era. They don't have all the mail order companies unfortunately. http://www.cemetarian.com/index.php?pr=Dating_Sewing_Patterns By...

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

Have you all seen Tara Tango shoes? They are dance shoes so they are very comfortable. Most run about $89-$150 but what's great is how many they have with 2" or shorter heels. Many have a 20's to 40's look. This page lets you sort them by heel height: http://www.diva-boutique.com/women.aspx

    Vintage Eye Sleeping Masks

Every color, material you could want: http://dreamessentials.com/ I gave them as gifts one year and everyone raved about them. Most are shaped so that you can wear them on a plane or for a nap and not mess up your eye make-up.

How long before fur coats fall to pieces?

Also, some furs are just sturdier (they have thicker skins) than others. I have a rabbit coat from the 80's that has tissue paper skins, and sheds like crazy. In the 70's I spent half my paycheck on a gorgeous 1940s silver fox coat, but the skins were dry. The first time I wore it my best...

    What Are You Reading

Vintage Betty reccommended this book back in May, and the title and her review intrigued me. I bought a used copy from Amazon (the author is actually Frank R. Stockton) and it is absolutely charming. I suppose it was originally meant as a children's book, but the story and characters are so...
