thanks to all
Thanks to everyone who posted such kind words about the new fedora. Positive reinforcement is a good thing, so now I just need to make time to take pictures of my other hats, although none are vintage.

response to Rick Blaine
Hi Rick,
I don't know, as I purchased the hat after it had been converted. Maybe Razzman, the Lounge member I purchased from will see this thread and chime in, otherwise, you could send him a PM. I'm guessing it cost less than I paid for the hat, which was less...
Hi,
Yesterday I received a 5X Resistol Silverbelly with Maroon ribbon & edge binding. I purchased the hat from Razzman, who had Major Moore convert a Western into this fedora. The sweat has "XXXXX Beaver" written on the front, and "Resistol Self-conforming" written over the right ear...
love to see it, but not likely
While I think he should wear a topper, I don't think it will happen. During my life (born in 1970) I don't remember any president-elect wearing a hat at inauguration.
I do think Mr. Obama will wear a timeless suit, as he seems aware of his place in history...
evening coffee
I almost exclusively drink decaf, so my after dinner coffee, when I have one, is usually a decaf espresso, made with whatever single origin bean I've most recently roasted. Right now, I'm drinking a colombian, roasted to a Full City roast (for the true coffee geeks among us)...
Pilot 78G today
Like John in Covina, I'm also using a Pilot 78G with the stub nib. I've got mine loaded with Noodler's Verdun Green, and it is an absolute pleasure to write with.

Fed IV recommendation....
Hi,
I went through this same process in late September, and I eventually went with the Fed IV (standard). For me, I made the right choice, the Fed IV is a rock-solid hat, looks good around town or "on adventures" (usually hiking with the kids), and has stood up to...
Platinum 3776 ribbed
Last night the Pilot 78G I had been carrying ran out of ink, so I flushed it this morning, and decided to put my Platinum 3776 ribbed black resin pen into rotation. The Platinum has a springy fine nib, which is ultra smooth and a joy to write with. I inked it with...
haven't been writing enough
still carrying the Namiki Bamboo, that Japanese Fine nib is quite stingy with the ink. When you combine the fine nib with the large converter, the pen writes forever before going dry.
Pilot 78G with medium stub (labled Broad) nib. This pen gives my...
good hat
My wife purchased me a Stetson Chatham for my birthday this year, and I'm very happy with the hat. I do not yet own a vintage fedora (I do have one on the way from Razzman!), but the Chatham is a good looking hat, soft felt, versatile color...everything that HarpPlayerGene said...
same old, same old...
Namiki Bamboo <F> nib, filled with Noodler's Black
Pilot 78G <B> nib (actually medium stub) green plastic, filled with Noodler's Verdun Green
beautiful hat, naieve question
Hi Razzman,
I hate to admit this in public, but I'm fashion challenged. What colors (I wear business casual for work) would/could work with this hat?
thanks,

I'm from a long line of unoriginal name choosers...
I go by French on FPN as well as here. On COW, since I live in Connecticut, I went with the (unoriginal but keeping with the theme) Connecticut Jones.
thank you
Thank you, Deacon.
I've had good fortune with buying pens used on http://www.fountainpennetwork.com and to a lesser extent on eBay. It is incredible how much less a screened maki-e costs than a hand crafted maki-e design...well, maybe not incredible when you think of all the...
all Japanese today -- no vintage
The pens I'm currently carrying with me are
Namiki Bamboo (black resin body, rhodium plated gold nib) Japanese Fine nib, which translates to a western extra fine. Filled with Noodler's Black ink.
Platinum "Cranes and Mt Fuji" screened maki-e pen...
very nice safety intro
Hi Deacon,
Like a previous poster, I first learned firearm safety from Dad and Granddad, then later in the US Army. It is so important for people to remember to always treat the weapon as if it was loaded and to never point the weapon at anything you do not intend...
the first "Indy" comment I've received
This past Monday I was working from my home office (first time in two weeks I've had a home office day). I took advantage of not needing to see anyone and wore blue jeans, J. Crew boots and a button down shirt. I needed to go to the grocery store so...
modern today, vintage & modern for my upcoming business trip
Hi.
Today a Pilot Knight with medium steel nib (buttery smooth, as the Japanese nibs are known to be, as well as it writing like a western fine). This pen is filled with Noodler's black.
For a business trip I'm taking for 2...
3 pens today, only one vintage
Hi.
Today I'm carrying a Hero 100 flighter (loaded with Noodler's BayState Blue ink), a Namiki VP, raden finish (loaded with Namiki Blue), and a 1930's Rigen japanese eyedropper (loaded with FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown).
When the VP runs out of ink, I'll...
not Boston or Western MA, but New Haven, CT
Hi Kitty,
Perhaps your friend could contact DelMonico Hatters in New Haven, CT. It is my understanding they have a semi-retired hatmaker who makes custom hats. Perhaps he could re-block your friend's lid.
Their contact information is on...
