I think it should be an excepted reality that mail order and custom/made-to-measure can only combine so successfully. That said... I have a shirt and pants from Magnoli that have spoiled me in terms of fit and comfort. As it happens, I have unusual measurements, and it's hard for me to really...
That pic was taken last summer at the Indiana Jones Summit. I guess I'm smiling, so I look more alive! lol I know that hat has been discussed many times. It's one of Art Fawcett's... I know it's in the "Diamond Club" thread, and probably a few others. It's my baby.
It depends on my mood and comfort. If I'm feeling playful, I tilt regardless of comfort. Otherwise, my hats sit however they feel best. Each hat seems to have it's own favorite position. Who am I to argue?
Under just about any circumstance, I thing you'd be right Spellflower. But since it's second hand, I'm not sure if they'll back it. Still, nothing is lost in trying!
I, too, am disappointed to hear about this... but LL Bean is probably banking on Stetsons long-standing reputation as the...
I'd say that describes many typical modern Stetsons, and Dobbs both modern and vintage. You could probably find a nice Dobbs on ebay, and the vendors here on the lounge carry both brands in most cases. The Stetson "Downs" is a nice style along the lines you describe, but there are so many...
OK, the Federation is a great starter hat, and is fairly rugged. It's probably the best hat in it's price range, and is made of Rabbit fur felt. I forget the exact measurements, but they seem to vary proportionate to size anyway. It comes open crown.
The Adventurebilt is a beaver fur felt...
Believe it or not, I just discovered this thread. Guess I've been neglecting the Observation Room lately.
Well, I'm Single. Ridiculous. Good. and Looking. Finally, a technicality that works in my favor! :fing28:
This looks like such a fun thread, and I've barely skimmed half of it!
Actually, it used to fit a little looser, so if anything, stretching it would return it to it's original size! lol So, I don't think stretching would be a problem. I thought about it, but I'd rather start the fund for my next Art Fawcett hat!
Oh, CRUD!
Rooster, it's a good thing you asked. That was a type-o! I don't know where my head was at!
I meant it was a truer 7 3/8! Because Federations in size 59 often fit more like a 7 1/2!
Thanks. I'm going to correct that right now!
NB
Hi all.
I have another batch of stuff on the 'bay. Some old, some new. The main attraction, a size 59 Campdraft. :( This one hurts, but it's gotta go.

I made a mistake in describing the size of the Campdraft (see my next post in this thread).
Erik,
I think low crowned hats come across as comical because not a lot of people can pull off the look. Short crowns often make a hat look too small, even if it isn't. Plus, the most famous low-crowners are pork pies, which are kind of whimsical. In any even, if the crown is too low to get...
Actually, that is my Adventurebilt. Don't worry, you'll graduate into one of those babies one day. :D
The Federation one of the best options in it's price range, as is the Campdraft. Both are open crowned, and loads of fun to play with! ;)
My Brown Federation
My Campdraft
The Carbon Grey that Akubra makes (on the Federation and a few others), and also their Moonstone - both good grays, not overly dark. The Carbon has a blue undertone that would work well with a Navy suit. And the Federations take well to the diamond crown, in my experience.
Never thought I'd see a discussion about Goth style on here, let alone one with such a positive tone! It's refreshing, really. I'm not a Goth, never have been... unless you count my "Ian Malcolm/Jeff Goldblum phase" when I wore all black with a black leather blazer for about two years. lol...
That stings just thinking about it! The theif probably doesn't even realize what he has!
In addition to the pawn shops, watch ebay for the next couple of months. It might pop up there. Sometimes criminals are really dumb.
Lensmaster; The Trench didn't sell on eBay. If you're still interested, yes it has a zip-out liner. You can e-mail me at michaelgarcia@yahoo.com to discuss.
The full story isn;t out yet, but from what I can tell, Wested may not be involved partly by choice. Just the feeling I get from previous discussion on COW... and the fact that Wested seems to have helped point the producers to AB for the hats. [huh] We've been promised full details on the hat...
