Fatwoul is right, scientifically speaking. I find no major difference with colors and heat unless I'm in the direct sun. Then, lighter colors will help reflect some of the heat energy. I read somewhere that black was a good color to wear in the jungle, while white and tan were best for the...
Oh, heck, no way is it a sin. The hat was made for it, and the vintage ones are better made for that. If it doesn't bother you (as it wouldn't bother me), wear it. Some people can't bring themselves to, but what's the point of getting a good, solid vintage lid if you're not going to use it?
I saw somebody today in Wilkes-Barre, PA at the Walmart, around 5 or 5:30pm, wearing what looked like a DP Indy hat with pin. I was in my car, trying not to run over a bunch of kids, so I didn't say anything.
Was that anyone from here?
NB
Yeah, the yellow straw one is the one I prefer. It's so soft and comfortable, and a perfect "grab and go" hat when you don't want to use what's inside your head to sort out what to put on it.
Price-wise, I think they were in the $16 - $20 range. I know I got at least one of them at Target...
Love that lid, Dixon! I've seen pictures of it, but never on a person. I didn't think much of it until now. The rest of the outfit is great too. I need something like that for those cool spring days.
Kentucky, there are some vendors who will gladly make a shorter-crowned Indy while remaining true to the proper shape. That includes the AB, I think. Not sure about the Camptown. Pretty sure that Peter Bros. would. There are so many options these days, at all price-points, for a "screen...
I wasn't going to post these because I figured they would disintegrate within a couple of weeks. Yet, they have proven great summer beaters. Just thought I'd share them.
this one is a sort of gold-yellow milan-ish weave with no indication of what it's made of. It's doesn't seem to be...
Here's my Federation in Carbon Gray (it's a beautiful color). Not quite as dark in person, though.

Nice hat! Despite what hard-core Raiders buffs say, the fur felt DP isn't that bad of a hat. It might not take the pounding of, say, an AB or VS... but it's not the "trash hat" that some make it out to be. I'm particularly fond of the color of the fur felt DP. Wear it well! ;)
Well, I do know that the Akubra factory was on holiday recently. It's possible that, on top of that, they didn't have the hat in your size in stock. Thus, they have to do another run of them. This is happening to some people waiting on Federations from Hats Direct, as well. So, I don't think...
Also, it might just be the color playing tricks with my eyes, but my Campdraft seems a little straighter than my Feds. Either way, though, you're getting a great hat! It might be easier for you getting the Federation first so you can get used to a tall hat.
Well, I see your point. But I think it's a matter of taste and what hat style fits a persons face and build. For those who want a tall, straight crowned hat, I maintain that the Campdraft is the winner. And a quick bit of work by a hatter (or the owner if he's good with a needle) can fix the...
