It sounds to me like you've generated a fair compromise between social etiquette and your desire to constantly wear your hat. So, if the people you work for and the people you have contact with seem comfortable with how you conduct your hat habits, I don't see why you shouldn't continue as you...
Of those two, I think the Stetson might be your better bet. However, Indycop is right. Check to see if Panamabob has anything in your price range first. Otherwise, it may be impossible to find a straight-sided straw fedora without ordering custom.... naturally more expensive.
Alan's got it 100% right. Steve has exhausted himself trying to correct the misconceptions and misrepresentations over the last year. He and several others with first hand knowledge of the truth. Frankly, it seems they've all had it with being nice, and I don't blame them. Most especially...
I usually snap it up when I'm not wearing it. I read that over time, the snap will be lost if it stays down all the time. From what I can see, it's true. Plus, the felt will "learn" that snap and be less adjustable should you decide to play around.
I find those walmart and target straws are great for a bummin' about hat or a quick run to the store. I have a couple, and I have no fear of their eventual destruction. Oddly enough, though, I sweat in them less than in my better straw hats. The ultimate irony - my butt ugly green target hat...
Oh, the AB hats are fantastic. Durable suckers, too. I own one, and have seen many others in person. Steve is a great guy, but busy. Sometimes he misses communications because they get lost in the shuffle. Direct e-mail is the best way to reach him.
With his new helper, he's moving much...
No specific problems with that hat, but I find cotton a bit warm. I only wear cotton hats in the rain during the summer/spring.
Also, you can probably find one with grommets already installed for the same $. That's just a guess, though.
Very nice! I think that's the first welt I've seen by Art.
As for the felt... if you think it's soft now, get caught in a serious rainstorm! Mine feels as floppy as a dishtowel, but somehow holds it's shape just fine. :eusa_clap
I like the PB Milan - very light, airy, and soft. However, I found it a touch too floppy (it sort of wilted in the humidity) and the crown too conical and tall. So, I had it reblocked and given just a little more stiffness (thank you, my guardian hat angel ;) ). I wore it quite a bit last...
Even though I love Indy, the Indy Hat, and the fact that it drums up popularity for hat wearing - I do find the constant association annoying. But I blame the ignorant people who make the association, not the Indy phenomenon. People always make simple, shorthand-type connections to things...
Like CherryRed, I'd like to know what our options are if we currently have a subscription hanging in the air. I just renewed, using up my small budget for reading material... and now I have nothing to read! I'm all for supporting the little guy, but in my case, this little hitch amounts to a...
Marcus is pretty much right. My main problem with Stetson fedoras, at this point, is that their crowns are too low and tapered for my frame and face shape. I can only get away with their "Temple" center dent shape. So, with the limited style variations they have, I'm reduced to less than half...
Hey, Blade Runner - I see you're in the Finger Lakes! I know that's a big area, but I'll be up by Keuka Lake in June. If you're close, maybe I could see that beauty in person, and grab lunch or something?
Now, why couldn't that link have worked BEFORE I embarrassed myself! I'll have to dig up pictures, because I have one by the master himself... Art Fawcett.
