That is a brilliant idea! I can see it in my head easily.

    the Stetson Chatham

I think the crown is a little bit taller on the Chatham. Also, I think Bencraft has a version with a wider brim. I have a second hand Downs that serves as my beater. It does it's job well, and still looks good doing it. HarpPlayerGene, I love what you did with that Chatham crown.

    hat brushing

I've actually seen those exact brushes sold as hat brushes. Often as "crown" or "travel" hat brushes. I also sometimes use a soft, natural hair paint brush sometimes.

There will always be those who will find anything to nip at. Don't put stock in them. Listen to actual customers. Tone, if there is one thing that has remained a constant on this board, it's the good management. Welcome to my other hang-out.

    Crooked Hat Band

Speaking for the Indiana Jones set; the "turn" is the theory that either by accident or design, the Raiders hat was worn (and bashed) slightly askew in most scenes, and causes the distinctly warped brim seen in only that film. I have my doubts, but that's what the turn is. To get it, you put...

    Custom Hat by Christmas?

Yeah, Art's wait list is at least 3 months. Optimo is probably your best shot given the deadline.

    Are Hats Your Main Interest?

Well, most of my other interests are either inconvenient or inexpensive. For example, I enjoy target shooting but there are no ranges nearby. Thus, I haven't fired a shot in almost three years. :( Hats have become my main collection interest, now. They are both fun and practical, which...

Help me Pick a Winter Hat!

Based on all the information you've posted so far, and your avatar, I'd say the Camel hat would be ideal. I think it will compliment your complexion and hair. It is also more versatile and tasteful. The navy coat might look better with it, but I think accessories can fix the problem with...

    New Federation - Help

My Federations have all been standard, and I'm fairly sure my other Akubras were Heritage grade.

Well, since you've already op'ed out of the JPD, I don't mind saying that Penman Hats are getting a lot of good buzz. I talked to the man himself not long ago, and I think he's at a 3 month wait right now. I'm weighing Penman vs. JPD for my next custom lid. Jimmy; Lots of Mylanta, my man...

    New Federation - Help

Based on my experience with Akubra, including the Fed III, and comparing it with reports of the Fed IV; Hatsdirect is wrong about the Fed IV running small. The Federation model has always run a little large. I wear a 59 Federation, and a 60 in every other Akubra I've tried (including the Banjo...

Johnnyphi Schobel listed on the Bay!

I've posted this hat on eBay, along with some fresh pics and a reduced price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330287281335&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=014 I won this from the NOS Johnnyphi auctions just recently, but I'm afraid it doesn't fit. I'm assuming it...

I think what Jimmy needs to do most is set a realistic timeline for customers at the time of order so that fewer people start wondering "Hey, where's my hat?" A two month wait time is great, but if Jimmy says three weeks, suddenly two months (with no contact) becomes 'long over due.' Where as...
