The felt color is Chocolate (appropriately enough).
I hope to get a pic wearing it tomorrow. Today was dirty-work day, so I was smelly, sweaty, and unshaven. On top of not wanting to look that bad in the internet, I didn't want to expose my brand new lid to such appalling conditions! lol...
These are issues I find myself asking about as I encounter them. The short answer is; Yes, the rules of fashion of changed over the years. The long answer involves issues of necessity, shades of color, balancing by way of accessories, etc, etc, etc.
I think the best plan is to learn as you...
Click the Flickr link for more views of the hat. Art didn't do the color splash on this bow, but it is layered. Sort of a "self accent" if you will.
What are the details on the Split Rock thing (times and days, a link maybe)?
Dinerman, a pre-formed brim can, in some cases, look exactly like a snap brim! The most obvious, though, are westerns.
Anyway, pre-formed, unformed, snap, whatever. The methods for altering shape remain the same. Stiffly set brims might require a little more effort and patience, but it's...
lol
OK, seriously;
I just had an idea for a green on brown lid that wouldn't go away. When I saw the hat completed, I thought of a chocolate after dinner mint or a mint brownie. Thus the joke, and the name "Chocolate Mint." :D Thank you again Art. The darker green was definitely...
I used to own a Campdraft and a vintage Open Road at the same time. The measurements and shape were a perfect match! I doubt any modern Stetson could say the same with any model. One more reason that Akubra is awesome.
You do have the option of sending your Open Road for a reblock. You...
I went up about a half size between age 30 and 35. My weight hasn't changed much, really, and has even gone down at times. But I had to place two vintage Stetsons on the alter of sacrifice. It does happen. If you are willing to stretch, go for it. Many people do. I have never had much luck.
I have done business by internet and phone with Hats Plus, and it has gone very well. That includes a very easy return I had to make because I didn't like a hat that I had purchased.
As to the specific hats you listed, I don't know them.
Unless you buy a new hat from a vendor that offers the service, open crowns must be shaped by you or somebody you know. It is so easy, especially with a nice, soft vintage lid. You can get loads of tips here, but just to give you a taste of how easy it is... here is a video of me doing a few...
Adams are nice hats. I have an Executive that came open crowned (unlike Johnnyphi's current auction) and it looks quite different. They are fur felt, they are generally thinner and lighter weight than modern hats, but they have all the weather-beating ability of a modern hat... and then some...
I don't dislike feathers in a hat band, but I find that most hats look better without them, if the feather even works at all. In this case, it works and it enhances the hat. Probably even better in person, seeing accurate colors. Great work, and a clever bow from Art! :eusa_clap
