That's Steel!?! It looks so blue on my screen. Wow.
Funny that Steel and Blue Smoke get mentioned just now. I wore both today - Smoke this morning, Steel this afternoon! :D
I think black hats often look too dressy for everyday wear, but will depend on the specific hat... not to mention, what "everyday" clothes you wear. ;)
For a casual black, I think brims should mostly stay under 2 1/2" to be sure. There are always exceptions though. I see black pork pies...
Agreed, mid to dark blues. Also, almost any gray will work fine (but be careful with the light grays). Even a nice earthy olive would be good if the gray has a brown or green undertone to it.
In the end, precision is not even close to needed here. Just try to keep the colors in the same...
If you're willing to try mens hats, once you figure out your size (only pull the tape measure as tight as you'd want the hat to be), try searching Dobbs and Stetson brands at places like Bencraft and the Fedora Store websites. There are plenty of low crown fedoras and porkies to be had...
I agree with everything you said. Also, those squash marks on the fawn will naturally come out over time if you have the patience to let them be.
I love what you did with the fawn. Looks very sharp.
The straw homburg is an interesting idea. I couldn't bring myself to go with a white one (at least in felt). As Edward says, a bit too hip-hop. I like the Akubra. Soft is good, because I can play with the shape a little for different occasions.
It will be a warmer time of year, so straws...
Thank you, folks. I see a trend, but keep it coming.
David V, you may be right. I just don't know if I want to buy a plain black tie. What about a black jacquard?
I found one tie that is supposed to be very dark gray with a touch of deep magenta and black. Must see it in person, first...
Not everyone (and not every hat) can make that look work, but it's cool when does work. I have only one hat that looks right on me that way, and like Indycop, it has to be a certain side It's been a while, and I can't remember which now! lol
OK, I have only worn one tux in my life, and that was a horrible pewter silk monstrosity at my senior prom! :eusa_doh:
Anyway, I will be wearing a very specific tux and would like some advice on hat color and style. The tux will be a single breasted white jacket with the satiny lapels...
I really like the look, but I think the gray is wrong. Maybe if you could find a thin taupe to replace it with it would solve the clashing problem.
Otherwise, it's really cool.
