Another fine mess... uh, I mean hat! :fing28:

    Repros v. Originals

I can't really claim to be as devoted to vintage style as a majority of the members here (at least, who post outside the Hat section lol ). But it's more a matter of circumstances, really. Obviously money concerns most of us, and I draw the line on any big-ticket item that will get very...

    Whaddya call this bow style?

If I'm seeing it right, it might be what's called a "three corner bow." It's similar to the open road bow, but not quite the same. Nice lid, by the way.

    Thanks, Art!

I like the same breed of peeve myself. And don't be embarrassed because the solution was simple. Quality is in the small details, my friend. And that includes service.

    Guns and shooting advice?

Kitty, this is great. Target shooting can be lots of fun. The best safety advice you've already gotten, and having experienced shooters nearby will help you greatly. My advice is from a guy with weak wrists and small hands (my friends call them Lady Hands... not cool), so I hope it's...

    overwhelmed, Help! recommendations please

Doctor Strange is right to mention that Akubras are higher quality than Stetsons, but I'm not familiar enough with their offerings to recommend a model based on your tastes, Adam. Akubras tend to be bigger hats than Stetsons, and might make yours seem smaller! lol I got my own start buying...

Looking for a Fedora that will stay snapped down in the front

It sounds like you're working mainly with wool felt. Unpredictable and generally uncooperative stuff. It takes a lot of work to change the shape of a wool hat, especially those crushables. If you're willing to go through a bunch of inexpensive hats to find what you want, why not upgrade to...

    AUCTION #113: Lee - Corral - Size 7 1/2 - C0000228980 - SOLD

As far as any exchanges on the open forum (thus excluding PMs) I think you might be misinterpreting a little. I don't think there has been any "rough treatment" going on. Stating a simple opinion or observation is not disruptive, but an actual "discussion" is. There is another thread open...

    Hat size confusion

Size variation is just a normal element of the hat-wearing game. But better to be a little big than a little small. You can shim something under the sweatband of a big hat, but a small hat isn't such an easy fix. I pass up many hats because most 7 3/8 are too small on me, yet most 7 1/2 hats...

Akubras are great hats, especially the Campdraft. But their lids tend to be bigger and meatier than Stetsons. In your case, I would suggest looking at other Stetsons. Stetsons with a c-crown or tear drop crown tend to have straight but low crowns, which would be less of a jump from a boonie...

DO THEY MAKE VIAGRA FOR LIMP FEDORAS?

For the most part, a fur felt hat can survive getting wet just fine, as long as you let it air-dry slowly. If it's really soaked, throw a hat stretcher in it while it dries to prevent shrinking. Some people like to treat their lids with a spray, but I have found no need for it.

DO THEY MAKE VIAGRA FOR LIMP FEDORAS?

Steam can reactivate the stiffener in the hat, while water tends to soften a hat. However, water does make the hat more likely to keep the shape it's given. One word of advice about water, though. Tap water can have all sorts of chemicals and minerals that could discolor the felt. Always...

The Sportaire was my first, though I changed the color. It is a perfect, all-around classic fedora. As far as fedora styles go, I would say it is the ideal everyday hat.:cheers1:

    AB vs. AB Deluxe

analogist covers the facts best and most succinctly. I would like expand just slighty, though. 1. Having seen and handled both side-by-side, I always recommend to people that if they live in the States, get Steve's, if you live in in Europe, get Marc's. I say that because, while the Deluxe...

    NEWS BOY CAPS

Thanks, Feraud. The sweat is some sort of ribbon, actually. Also, the bill is soft enough to roll, but stiff enough to hold it's shape. The hat is perfect for stuffing in a pocket or bag. And there is an elastic band sewn under the ribbon sweatband that is accessible at the back for size...

    NEWS BOY CAPS

OK. Here's the Extra Full. I would definitely recommend it only for 1) larger guys, 2) round or broad faces, or 3) Women who like full cut hats. I think when I get used to seeing myself in a cap, this will become a favorite, as I already like it. And it's very comfortable. I highly...
