Good Vintage Boys or Girls Names...

Hi When picking a name for your child, one unfortunate task it to take the first name, middle name(s), and last name and make a decent junior high try at making something filthy out of it. An old friend's last name is King, couldn't name a son Richard or John (Dick and Jack). There were at...

    The Black Hat Brigade

Hey, thanks for the info. I went to college with a lot of Jewish guys from the Chicago area. (I used to know say 500 Jewish American Princess jokes...) I didn't know any Orthodox Jews though. I was thinking (of course) of how I would do it. If my religion required me to wear a black hat...

    John Wayne's Akubra?

Hi I agree with the other guys about your expression, too much "F Troop" not enough "John FORD". PERSONALLY, I don't think I like the flipped up front. I didn't like Curly Bill on Tombstone, and I'm not John Wayne who COULD pull it off. Later

    Post New Hats Here!

Hi That's a good looking hat, that works for you. Very historical for your location too I think. later

    John Wayne's Akubra?

Hi I have a Resistol at Hatman Jack's getting bent correctly for a John Wayne Cavalry hat. I just received a nice Indian wars Cavalry Shirt to wear with it from Cook Creek Old West store http://www.cooncreekoldwest.com/. I just ordered double loop Stampede Strings in horsehair to wear with it...

    The Black Hat Brigade

Hi I saw those and was kind of wondering why? I mean don't Orthodox Jews wear the black hats pretty much all day every day? The pictures even show them eating dinner wearing the hats, which isn't the "Hat Etiquette" I'm aware of. On a side note, I'm starting to wonder why I even wear a...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Hi You have to see it to believe it in a way. A snap brim actually snaps down in front (or back) when you pull it down. Snap brims are "flanged" (I think that's the term) with steam and heat so that the will snap up and down. later

Seen any kids dressed like this lately?

Hi I asked my cousin from Webster County Kentucky about the bullet holes in all of his "No Trespassing" and "No Hunting" signs. I was curious if you're required to shoot the signs before you put them up or after. They ALL had holes though. If it's a Slow Child, how come he's pictured as...

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Hi While I have hat songs stay in my head for a long time, none (to date) have been connected with a hat. I've been wearing a Beaver Brand Stony River, I'm scared to find out what songs are connected with Stones, Rivers, and Beavers. I had four room mates my Junior year in college and they...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Hi Has anyone had the Fed IV flanged into a real snap brim? I had that done by Levin's Hat Shop in StL to a Beaver Brand and it worked great. Later

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Ahh, it ain't THAT bad. I've only been through Dallas a few times on the way to Bossier City LA. I've never crossed the Line to Fort Worth, but I think they're probably more my type. Dallas has more of a reputation for the "pinky in the air set", while Fort Worth has the stockyards. The...

    Excessive posting? ... Interesting.....

Happy Birthday Tom. You're legal now, you don't have to drink what we referred to as "our high school beer" anymore. I used to drink it back in the 1970's when it was brewed downstream from the Peoria Illinois sewage disposal plant. (I hope I'm kidding, but I think I may be right). Your next...

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

See, now on that one I have about half and half. I have a Stetson Temple, a Beaver Brand in a teardrop, a Roughrider hat (close to a teardrop) and a Charcoal Tumwater on order. The Tumwater will be either a center dent or a diamond. Haven't gotten that far yet. It WILL definitely have a...

    John Wayne's Akubra?

Hi My favorite line in the movie: Belle Starr: Coleman Younger! Seems like you folks are havin' a real nice party in there. Cole Younger: I expect so, with free food and drink and all. Belle Starr: How come I wasn't invited? Cole Younger: 'Cause you're a whore, Belle. Belle Starr: I might be...

Canadian Boss of the Plains No. 1 Quality -Boer Wars? WW II? more contemporary?

Hi Never EVEN been to Canada, but I've read a lot of the British Empire's history. The British use two different crowns on their insignia depending on whether the current Monarch is a boy or a girl, the King's Crown and the Queen's Crown. They swapped over n the mid-1950's when King George...

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Hi I have an unreasoned, but complete hatred of cowboy hats with the cattleman and cutter creases. No idea why, I haven't been in an accident with 3 guys wearing cheap white hats creased that way. I haven't been dumped by several cowgirls wearing pink hats with that crease. I just don't like...

Route 66 (2012 Trip) - any one live along the route?

My whoops. I'm considering taking my 24 year old on a day trip to the Davis gun museum and along 66 for a while. He's into history a little. Later

    John Wayne's Akubra?

Hi I think that a lot of Selleck's Westerns have been more realistic than usual. "Monte Walsh" shows our hero riding into town and getting a shave, haircut and bath. It didn't seem to happen every day. I would note that his 5 o'clock shadow did seem to be appropriate for his time away from...

    The Great Beer Thread

Hi I find the Russian Imperial Stouts to be too syrupy for my taste. I've had the Rasputin and while I finished it, I won't buy it again. Oatmeal stouts are o.k., but not the Russian stuff. Later

    Countdown To Thanksgiving

Hi One thing that was entertaining about Thanksgiving one year was when my great aunt and great uncle (not married to each other) argued about faith healing for about 3 hours. Watching 70 year-olds of opposite sexes get in a near fist fight is kind of fun to watch when you're 13. Probably...
