    depression cooking

Olive oil has always been available in the US. If not in every grocery store, certainly in ethnic neighborhoods. By the 19th century every city had its French, Italian or German shops and delicatessens.

    Cake!

2 or 3 years ago I took a notion to make a pineapple upside down cake. When I mentioned it to friends, the older ones said " I haven't had pineapple upside down cake in years." The young ones said "what's a pineapple upside down cake?". This surprised me as I always thought of it as a standard...

    The Ration Book Diet

You can get pearl barley at any good grocery store. It comes in bags and is found with the dry beans and rice. Add a handful of barley to home made vegetable soup, or make beef barley soup with a soup bone, carrots, celery, onion, barley, and an OXO cube. This was a staple of working class...

    I remember when.....

Has anyone mentioned the Conelrad system, with semi annual announcements on the radio 'this is a test of the emergency broadcasting system" followed by eerie tones, and the 2 triangles on the radio dial so you knew where to tune in, in case of a Russian missile attack?

    Dealing with "Buyers Remorse"

Try drinking and doing drugs, ha ha just kidding. It is all part of the price of being a fashionista. Donate the stuff you don't want to charity and feel good for helping people, then look at all the empty closet space you have to fill up and feel even better.

    Alec Baldwin: Good-bye, Public Life

Not to spoil anyone's fun, but I look to this site to get away from people like Baldwin. Besides, he's an actor. He's supposed to be stupid and egotistical.

    Matches and Lucifers..

You may have to glue a piece of sandpaper under your thumb nail ha ha. To strike a match on the seat of your pants you must wipe the match head across the surface fast. The friction heats up the match head and causes ignition. Or glue a piece of sandpaper to your bum.
