A beautiful Aero Leather contract number 42-15142-P, in russet front quarter horsehide, with a vintage Talon zipper--Size 42. Jacket hardly worn and just starting to break in--still stiff enough to stand up on its own. Rust knits, olive drab stitching. Name tag is NOT glued on and could be...
Jacket received today--thanks for the fast shipping!
I am unbelievably pleased with the jacket and the purchase. Aside from an original Cable A-2 I owned years ago, I have never had a jacket fit so well, and Goodwear lives up to its reputation--a simply beautiful jacket and far closer to my...
My $0.02...I also find it odd that something as common as a set of USMC P41 utilities during WW2 would be made by the costume shop as opposed to just getting it used or "surplus," or simply given to the studio.
Oddly, a guy I grew up with (and we're from the backwoods of Oregon) ended up...
An orphan's story...
Back in the mid 1980's when I was in college, I spent the astronomical sum of $355 to buy an Avirex MacArthur A-2 (tuition at Oregon State was $483 a term). At the time with no internet and such, it was the closest thing I could find to an original.. It wasn't a bad...
It was indeed veg tanned and Eastman's first foray into horsehide as I was told when I bougt it. In fact, I had to wait for about 4-5 months becuase it was the first of the horse A-2's.
You know, there's never been a better time for beer or reproduction A-2 jackets. The microbrews that seem to exponentially multiply each day and the range of jackets John Chapman is producing (among others) is simply astounding. I am fortunate to be alive now and to have these interests...

So I have a Roughwear A-2 I literally bought off the pack of a punk rocker walking down the street in Seattle about 20 years ago. Leather and stitching are in great shape, but the numbskull removed every cloth component in the jacket as well as the two lower leather tabs for the waistband.
I...
You are in Seattle. Can you make it down to Eugene, Oregon? Action Surplus in Eugene/Springfield has lots of genuine peacoats, and not the crappy later versions--mostly mid 1960's era jackets.
No offense, but you are in NYC. The open air flea markets have lots of peacoats and I have found a number of excellent G-1s there too. Just go for a walk on a Saturday and I am sure you'll find one.
Also, there is a good surplus store down around Houston Street if I remember correctly, and...
I'm 5'8" and 150-155#. All my friends growing up were 6'2". There have been several people named John that I either went to school with or worked with and they were either taller or heavier, so invariable I've been "Little Jon."
I travel a lot in Mexico and naturally everyone calls me Juan...
