    Smokers in films

Someday...when I'm bored...I'm going to count how many cigarettes Robert Mitchum goes through in 'Out of the Past.' That one has to be the film with the most cigarettes smoked.

What is your vintage dream purchase??

I'd go for artwork... anything of depression era midwest regionalist Grant Wood: anything by another midwest regionalist Thomas Hart Benton: oh heck...even a Salvador Dali:

Man of the century, why have I never sen this before?

I watched this last night on Encore. Although well made I thought the acting was a bit weak. Seemed more like a stage play to me. The lead character really carried the film.

Something to make you laugh during your lunch hour. "Art too bad to be ignored."

I've been collecting tacky art for ages. They make great gag gifts.... I just found this one at the Goodwill...couldn't pass it up. It's a huge painting and actually has a title...'The Woman of Castille.' She looks so sweet and innocent, but the dude behind her is looking at us...the sleazy...

A teeny thing 'counter-vintage' about you?

I guess what I originally meant was since a lot of you embrace vintage that other people you know might be surprised that you actually like modern things. Some people I work with assume I just like old music, old movies, own all vintage clothing, etc. So they are a bit surprised when I let them...

A teeny thing 'counter-vintage' about you?

In your vintage/golden era lifestyle is there something you may be hiding from others that is 'counter-vintage' (running contrary)? Me? I have very nice collection of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and big band albums, but I also own every LP put out by Kraftwerk...the German...

    A Century of Progress 1933-34

Here's a few more items I scrounged up. Notice the one is from the 1934 Chicago fair. On the bottom left is from the 1939 Golden Gate Expo in San Francisco. Above that is the Hall of Science from 1933. They're pretty beat up.

I have a little Canon digital Elph with a macro setting (tulip symbol). It does a great job on close ups.
