Borsalino has the same corrugated material in the front of their sweatbands. I'm not sure if we ever discovered why they did this - fit, flexibility and ventilation? -

Very nice, scott - One thing I've noticed about Optimo's "Optimo" block is that center line is TOO WIDE and not SHARP enough for the traditional Optimo crown. This has been one of the reasons behind sending my panamas to Art Fawcett who seems to possess such a block. -

Truth be told the hat will never fit me - it was a 7 1/8 originally and the sweatband literally crumbled apart in my hands upon arrival. I'm now faced with either selling the hat as is, spending big money to have it sized down, or leaving it on the shelf as a display piece. I don't think... -
