ScottF... funny ! Yeah, that hat is a mess. I tried to turn the brim down more on mine and it makes the hat look horrible. So no more of that. billyspew... I agree: love the hat. It is my favorite... so far. Now why oh why do I keep searching eBay for more hats???! ;) thorne

    Hat dating?

Thanks, Dinerman. I guess I'm being sacrilegious by steaming it so the front brim turns down. thorne

    Steaming question

Well I'm not sure if I have a snap brim. The brim is stiff like the rest of the hat. thorne

    Steaming question

Thanks everyone for your advice. I wanted to upload a picture of my hat, but couldn't figure out how other than to add a link to a picture on the internet. (Oh I see - I am not permitted to post attachments) thorne

    Steaming question

Hi All. I've got a Dobbs 50's fedora with a snap brim 2" and I've been steaming it to get the bash I want. One thing with which I've been unsuccessful is how to get the brim straight. It's got bumps and lumps. What do people use to keep the brim straight while they steam? Thanks. thorne

More makeovers, step by step process

Looks like the guy who did the naptha thing left the sweatband in. Hard to believe naptha wouldn't hurt the leather. thorne

More makeovers, step by step process

Yeah, Scotty, that makes sense and it's not something I want to happen. Brim is only 2" already. I like the hat so much that for now (until I start getting headaches) I'm willing to wear it to see if I can stretch it that way. =:-O thorne

More makeovers, step by step process

Al - I just bought a vintage fedora that is a 7 1/8 and I want it to be 7 3/8. How did you remove and put back the leather sweatband? Mine is sewn in and I have no experience at sewing leather. The fedora is a Dobbs from the 50's. Thanks for the great step by step. thorne
