House of Darkness House of Light by Andrea Perron.
Not vintage, though the events in the book take place in the 70's. It's the book that the movie The Conjuring is based on.
I'm not new, but it's been ages since I've been here. Thought I would go ahead and reintroduce myself.
I live in Virginia and have a fondness for the 40's, though I am not full on vintage. I like to read, cook, bake, knit and sew and, inspired by Isis, am in the midst of making a 40's wardrobe.
I recently acquired a Gloverall duffel coat from one of the local thrifts. It looks pretty much like this one. Very warm! I've been enjoying it with the unusually cold weather we've been having!
It's hot as all get out today and I'm helping a friend set up her classroom (=hard work), so today is just a touch of mascara and lipstick in my favorite Rimmel color, Temptation.
We were going to have
Marinated pork chops
Cottage potatoes
Fresh green beans
but then we got a call that a friend we haven't seen in five years was in town. So we went out to dinner instead!
While I do make a pretty good butterscotch cookie from the recipe on the bag of butterscotch flavored chips, these come from my 1942 Modern Family Cook Book.
Butterscotch Cookies
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp soda
3/4 cup shortening (half butter)
2 cups brown sugar...
Last night was omelets with sauteed onions and peppers, bacon, farm stand sausage, cheese, and fresh tomato.
Tonight is
Meatloaf
Mashed potatoes
Fresh peas
Butterscotch cookies
Miss G-I would have been quite terrified. Spiders and I do not get along!
Fortworthgal-how is the Mister feeling? Better, I hope!
Tonight is curried chicken over rice, peas, tomato slices, and jelly roll for dessert
