Things That Never Seem to Change

I never use A-1 on my steak.. but if I have to choke down eggs (sunny side up) as the price to pay for a steak & eggs breakfast, it's a lifesaver. Otherwise, I can't stand eggs. (And don't even serve oatmeal or any other hot cereal anywhere near me. I don't want to get too graphic here.. but...

Things That Never Seem to Change

Corn Huskers Lotion. Peeps Candy. That ridiculous NORAD tracking of Santa crap that they broadcast at Christmas. Year. After year. After year. After year.

    The Decaying Evolution of Education...

Honesty is a virtue: never a vice. Your mom sounds like a strong woman I'd admire. When I married my wife she was a family nurse practitioner who was primary care provider at a shelter for the homeless. There were some she encountered who were part of the permanent underclass: they could hit...

Ghosts, Time Travel, and Space / Inter-dimensional Neural Communication...

I sometimes think that the misfit toy- types are the stronger ones. They have to learn to deal with adversity early on. The overly pampered, center of attention prima donna types are the ones that really fall apart when there's no one around any longer to spoon feed them. Surprisingly, that...

    Leather Jackets With Ties

Personally... I like the tie with leather jacket look. "Gentlemanly... but all man." Wouldn't hesitate to wear my A-2 with a shirt & tie.

Ghosts, Time Travel, and Space / Inter-dimensional Neural Communication...

And that raised yet ANOTHER tangent: the idea that "Lucifer" (Which isn't a Hebrew word at all: its root is Latin.) and "Satan" are the same guy. Not in the text of the Bible.. at all! The concept originated in the Second Century C.E.

Ghosts, Time Travel, and Space / Inter-dimensional Neural Communication...

There came a time in my life where I was forced (if for no other reason, honesty) to apply the same standards of open minded skepticism that I exhort the triers of fact to apply to proffered evidence in a courtroom to long accepted premises of the spiritual realm. It's become impossible for me...

    Bob Dylan Assessment

My late Dad was a big fan of Olivia Newton John's cover of "If Not for You." Early 70's, the two of us were coming back from a fishing trip when Dylan's recording of it came on the car radio. Dad: "This guy can't sing worth a sh** !!" Me: "Dad, he wrote the song..."

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Finest Hours (2016) on opening night. The film is set in 1952, so there is a lot of late era clothing and cars, and from what I read, it was a fairly accurate rendition of the S.S. Pendleton Coast Guard rescue. Enjoyed it: a great old fashioned true hero rescue story, with the expected side...

B-3 Jacket as a Daily Wear

When the temp goes below 30F, I wear my Aero ANJ-4. Still breaking it in, so I wear it whenever I won't overheat in it. It was a major investment for me, so it's not going to be hung up and only worn when I want to "look pretty." I'd rather wear it out than see it gather dust.

The Role of Education In Assigning Value to Societal Labor Sectors

Another opinion in the unwinnable "greatest country in the world" argument: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2016/01/20/these-are-the-worlds-best-countries-sorry-america-youre-number-4/?tid=paid_fb_keywee&kwp_0=96443&kwp_4=480537&kwp_1=265732 Only visited there 3 times, but I...

The Role of Education In Assigning Value to Societal Labor Sectors

I certainly don't feel guilty or apologize for my success either. Yes, I did earn my way through school, and I worked a considerably difficult job for over 30 years, and I worked it well. None of it was handed to me, either. And now I enjoy a decent pension and have never enjoyed life more...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

I can remember many cop friends back in the 70's remarking tat the only TV police show that they watched was Barney Miller. They had enough "realism" on the streets: what they wanted when it was time to relax was intelligent but good natured humor.

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

Learned 'em on my grandfather's lap! And I finally- in my late 50's- actually made it to Tipperary Ireland.... to be greeted by a sign reading, "You've come a long way.."

Stands to reason, really. The circumferences become progressively smaller as the record plays, but the stylus is always travelling @ the same RPM.

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

I'm reluctant to paint all "rock music" with the same wide brush. The category label, like jazz, covers everything from reworked R&B, to heavy metal, surfer and hot rod songs, Madonna... you name it. It's a genre worth serious inquiry and I find much of it an offensive cacophony, but there are...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

"Most of the death row inmates have court appointed attorney's and in our state it is the only crime that no hourly limits are placed on the attorney's [sic] representing these scumbags. We're paying for their defense." As well we should. The system, from the beat cop to the supreme court...
