Thank you for this and other similar threads on Johnson Leathers. When I take a trip north in a few months to see some friends I'm definitely going into their place for a Highway Patrol style jacket. (I'm hoping for something, maybe a little custom, where there's a belt or something around the...
I know for a fact that Gibson and Barnes are cut sort of "generously," and I do want a trim, military fit. And I'm the type that would rather get what I want right out of the box than start changing or dying the knits on a brand new jacket.
I'm not a stickler for authenticity but I know I want a Dark Seal, 90% probably horsehide and with reddish knits. And I've gotten slim so I definitely want a trim, military cut. I think U.S. Authentic would fill the bill except I think their knits are brown. Goodwear is too much moolah as is...
Thanks for this thread. I'm on a vegetarian diet where I'm losing a pound a week and I told myself that when I level off I'm going to get myself a trim jacket. Johnson leathers is starting to look like a real possibility. I love the fact that I can visit some friends in San Francisco and...
Thanks everybody. That last pic really says it all. I had to go on a healthy diet, have lost some weight, and when I level off I'm planning to buy a nicely fitted jacket for riding, etc. Currently I'm leaning Aero Rocker maybe, but I'm not ready to wait a really long time like the nine months...
There's a 38 Aero on ebay that I'm not going to bid on, but I was curious. I emailed the seller and asked if if was a "motorcycle" jacket and how did the sleeves close and the guy mailed back "Yes" and "Elastic?" I think I would want a jacket with zippered sleeves or some kind of old-fashioned...
Thanks! That's just the kind of stuff I want to know. Personally, I usually don't wear a watch on my bike because I always carry a cell phone and I don't wear shirts with cuffs either, but I still think I would not want those knitted cuffs inside the sleeves. I would want to ride with the...
I'm going to get a new jacket when I finish slimming down and my current heartthrob is the Lost Worlds Easy Ryder. Anyone have opinions? I thought of getting the cowhide over the horsehide because I didn't want to have to wrestle with the break-in, but their website says they're both equally...
I was more wondering whether it would be safe to wear it on a cold day when rain is threatening. In any case, I'd have an umbrella and I do have a nice Woolrich Goretex rain parka that I got twenty years ago and have been wearing in the rain ever since.
I know horsehide is supposed to be waterproof and I think goatskin is also, but what about cowhide.? I have an Enfield that I think is going from motorbike only to general wear and it would sure be nice if I could wear it in the rain. It seems like water beads and rolls off, but that's...
Thanks to those who answered. I really wasn't looking for A2 recommendations because I've already been educated on this board. What I was especially hoping for is finding a maker I once saw from Scotland I think with real classic styles and old-fashioned graphics on their site and people...
I know I've come across high-end makers other than Aero, Lost Worlds, Schott, and Johnson Leathers on this board; but I can't recall them now. I like my Vanson Teton but want something super duper for spice and want to check out all the possibilities.
It's not like I think you guys are dying to know my latest thoughts, but I'm going through what I've read other's go through and "misery demands company." I came down with a medical problem that doesn't seem like it'll be too bad if I watch my diet (like a hawk.) Pain is a greater motivator by...
I'm thinking ebay maybe. Anyway it's fun to look and try for a good bargain, although if I want something I'll bid high. Anyway I was just in Brooks Brothers and after dropping $375'ish I asked the salesman to measure my chest and it came out 41". So should I think about 22" pit to pit (a 40)...
Here's my Teton. When I got my Enfield from ebay, I thought for a while that I'd never wear it again. But in truth, the Teton is a great bike jacket with armor and venting. So I use my Enfield for the times when I'm going to a restaurant or shopping or something where I'm going to be walking...
I've been thinking about trying to get probably a Cooper A2 on ebay or similar (if the price is right), but have a dilemma regarding sizing. I'm not sure whether to get a 40 or a 42. Most of my life I've been a Medium, which is 38 or 40. I have an LL Bean Warm-up jacket in Medium and I...
What is the length measurement on a typical 42 regular, either from the top or the bottom of the collar down to the bottom of the knit trim in back. Thanks much.
Maybe I'm a weather wimp and put on a leather jacket where others might feel comfortable in a tee shirt. Maybe it's driving inland from near the beach, where it's always cooler. I just know sometimes I'll be wearing my Vanson Teton and all of a sudden it starts to feel a little clammy. At...
I'm no jacket expert, but other things being equal I think a "main" jacket is better if it has effective venting. If there are alternate jackets, then they don't have to be vented, but I think it's better if you have that option.
