Well, both are right ... depending on the type of leather (tanning, finish, etc.) developed over time by the natural (but also artificial) wear various surfaces ... open-pored, through-dyed leather will be greasy with time ... tea core leather e.g. develops over time the typical, bright...
Sometime it doesn't take long to reach a real patina* (depending on leather). In this case 3yrs nearly daily wear on a Golden Bear HH tea core jacket ;)
*The fading on left shoulder comes from the strap of a bag...

To answer your question, this product should work for your jacket... if your jacket is dry that could be an option but from my experience it will darken the leather.
Also I am using Elephant Leather Preserver on my pigmented and semi-aniline Leather Jackets since years with satisfaction due the fact this Preserver is "Made out of 100% synthetic fat, it is acid free, odour neutral and free of vegetable or animal fats...".
A new leather jacket originally...

Indeed it's a nice coat... but sadly not made for western hemisphere physique (athletic built). If you try your actual size it is too tight on chest, if you size up it is too wide on hip/hem... looks like you are wearing a skirt.
Also the A-shape (bell-cut) in general isn't everyone's taste...
Size 40" in vintage black from 2015 season available at: https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/topjimmy/item/fw_1531003/
But be warned, all (most) FW Leather Jackets are on the warm side due wool lining they use.
Also from my ebay (bad) experiences... often it has 50 - 70 watchers on an item you have on sale ... but in the end only 3-4 are bidding. It seems they are a lot of lurkers around... some yrs ago, sometimes you have to go thru a hefty bidding-battle.
@ton312 as I mentioned in my OP... the vintage market is another thing (maybe worth another thread)... right now, thinking about my best sale ever... made with a BUCO J-22 2nd type
But we should held this thread by: new made & in new or nearly new condition leather jackets these days...
