Hotwatertreatment to horween CXL jackets has been a thing, but how about HWT for CXL boots?! Lol. I want to pre age & shrink these somewhat roomy Wesco, see what happens.
@Blackadder & @JustinW, thank you for the responses. Still, I think there's a misunderstanding here.
I'm not looking to keep the jeans dark longer, or looking for high contrast wear. I am looking to approximate the color tone of late 1960's 501s.
You know this, but just to be clear- every era...
I get it man it can be so confusing. Try not to overthink it. Full aniline is good for you if you want a nice smooth leather where you can appreciate color variations and if you don't mind imperfections in the hide and this type of leather is not good in the elements at all. Semi aniline is good...
i was planning to beat these redwings up as much as i can, starting by wetting them in hotwater, but now, i remembered red wing uses a layer of cork, and i'm not sure how tough their glue is for the insole cushion, so, some parts may not withstand watertreatment well....I welcome any opinions...
...doesn't do enough, try hotwater. Won't hurt the leather any. Might need to put a coat of Pecard on the sleeves afterwards if the hotwatertreatment makes the leather stiff. The sleeves don't look too baggy to me.
As the leather is CXL, don't know that it will shrink. I have had a vegetable...
Oh sure. Welcome to the Fedora Lounge. HWT= HotWatertreatment. There are several threads on the subject found here in FDL land. In this case, I'm using more of a luke warm watertreatment, and a very slow drying process as to not shrink the leather and yet speed up the aging process. I'll keep...
...with gussets.
Don't ever buy a Schott. You'll have to take them to the tailor. We're basically the same size. I'm a little less on chest and little more on waist. All my Schotts went to the tailor or got the hotwatertreatment. All my Aeros were pretty close to perfect with the cafe style.
...too small for him meant perfect for me :)
When the jacket arrived, it was still looking a bit dull so I gave it a final coat of beeswax. The jacket had a couple of ugly creases and the collar was totally flat and crooked. I gave it the hotwatertreatment so I could mold it back into shape.
...how I want them so I can lose the straps. I love the 100 series leather, but the fit on this thing is weird.
My bicep sleeve is also too puffy. I gave it the hotwatertreatment, which I think helped a little bit, but still not ideal. The struggle is real LOL. First world problems for sure.
It's occurred to me, the pictures of my Bronco, that just might be bigger than 24 P2P. The truth is, I gave that jacket some hotwatertreatment, because the back was so billowing. That's a whole 'nother thread.

INTERMISSION
Damn this is a long post! So here’s the half time interval digression...
Whilst we are talking break-in, as a digression, FWIW here my tips for leather boot break in:
Get the right size and type of boot in the first place that suit you. If they look cool but hurt you, you...
Happy break in! This looks super cool, I like the zippers on the outer sleeves too,
That looks great overall! Hope to see you break this is and drape to your body better! There's always the hotwatertreatment if you want to speed it up. . .
It's definitely steel, I'd imagine they take rust resistance into account but I'm not sure its stainless. There are OSHA regs when it comes to footwear protection so the material described (steel, aluminum alloy, composite, etc.) is usually accurate.
No modifications on the Johnson Vermont M-200 whatsoever. Fit was just fine. Hardly ever wore this one.
I used the hotwatertreatment on the Aero Type 3 I bought through Thurston Bros....the fit on the Aero Type 3 was just way too loose, so I had to use the treatment tightened it up.
I notice in another thread you posted in this has had a “hotwatertreatment” any other “modifications” to this jacket while in your possession?
Was there any any side affects to this treatment like lining shrinkage or any issues with the zippers due to shrinkage of any kind?
