...collar was done in much the same way. Here's a progress pic:
Finally, I added a horsehide pull tab out of the leather from the panels, used the hotwatertreatment to remove some of the creasing, and covered it again in Pecard's. Final pics coming soon!
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this!
Selling this great capeskin Eastman A-1 Jacket size 44/46. Hotwatertreatment and dried, treated with Picards. There has been some shrinkage from a marked size 46 to a 44/45. Wrists are narrow. My wrists are 7 1/2 inches in diameter, if your wrists are larger, the wrist area on the jacket...
Disengage mail-stalk mode, the Star arrived. :) IMO, Steve S did indeed make a Star. ;)
The hide used has to be handled to truly appreciate it. VERY supple, and has a great leather smell. There is some nice grain going on here and there, which I will take pics of later to show. The leather...
...the jacket fits well…….roomy actually with plenty of length in the sleeve (for me). A superb A-2, I am just not wearing it. No hotwatertreatment, shrinkage, etc. There was one previous owner of the jacket for a short time who bought it directly from the Good Wear sales page. I purchased it...
Just did a hotwatertreatment last night on my Goodwear California Racer. It was about a half size to large and rode up in the back and shoulders when seated. I just wore the jacket into the shower and cranked up the hotwater. After it was good and soaked I towel dried the jacket inside and...
What dye did you use? My dye job turned out well. I used a good quality dye in a hotwater solution. The hat body (sans sweat, liner and ribbon) came out like a blank felt. I reblocked and ironed the brim but then sent it out to Mike at NW Hats to complete. I wanted a pencil rolled raw...
Thanks! Steve can definitely cut and sew some sweet jackets for certain. :)
Thanks! I agree it does have 'the look'.. I will be posting some fit pics after it arrives. The construction looks just as good as the GW Perry I swapped for this Star from what I can see in the pics.
Thank You.. :)...
Yes sure! no worries, got an offer for 400 and took it.Thinning out my collection. Buyer will do the " hotwatertreatment" so it will be 1000% his measurements.
Thx for watching.
good hunting!
One hotwatertreatment and its one to one and a half inch smaller and looks even more WW2...
Who knows if the IBAN payment does not arrive within 10 days...I put it back here.
Saphir makes a suede shampoo. Get that and use a soft tooth brush and white cotton rag to slowly and carefully wash those shoes off. Use not so warm water, you do not want to use any really warm water nor hotwater on them. BUT before you do all that use that conditioner on the insides of those...

I've owned one of JC's Perry Sportswear contracts in goatskin, and the workmanship was top-shelf, as well as the hide. Unfortunately, since it was a pre-owned jacket from eBay, and the listed measurements were off, the jacket was much more roomy than expected. After successfully shrinking quite...
I'm pretty sure that I've read quite a few posts regarding USA's larger-cut stock jackets. I suppose it's possible the A-1 I have was a custom jacket with a size 44 tag. The chest isn't too bad, but too roomy and large for me. The sleeves at 28" tunnel-down to the point where there is no knit...
...jacket has no other tears, issues. There are natural signs of wear, scuffs/scratches from wear not “aged”. I did receive some hotwatertreatment but it was worn/hanger dried not in dryer. I see there is a Good Wear Combat Clone A-2 on the GW site with an original patch and name strip for...
The jacket actually looks even better then before (and absolutely no shrinkage!). The grain really "pops" after a wetting-down, and I've never been one to do any kind of hot-watertreatment (I prefer to break in a jacket just by wearing it in all sorts of weather). A good rain storm will work...
Well, with completion drawing near, I thought it's time to get a thread started on my latest A-2 jacket project.... Steve S http://www.thefedoralounge.com/members/steve-s.36147/ (Greatest Generation Clothing Co.) has been hard at work crafting a nice Star Sportswear A-2 jacket reproduction for...
Hello all, I have been beta testing the A-1 for some time now and have really given it rough treatment. It has held up to everything I have thrown at it. I decided to do a HWT on the jacket to bring out more grain, and to shrink it a little as it was a little big on me. The results were...
+1 - don't do a hotwatertreatment, but use room temp or cold water and let it dry slowly while stretching it. It may or may not work, but as HD notes, it's your best bet. Hotwater and quick drying = shrinkage.
Wow! Thanks very much for this info. Those steerhides do look dynamite! I'm looking forward to seeing photos and reading more details and feedback of your Star repro. I think for the sake of sportsmanship, I'm going to stick with Dave for this production, as I've already been in contact with him...
Just wondered this- bought a used Aero one (made by them, not one of their standard patterns) and it's great with a t-shirt or shirt, but restrictive in a sweater. Would wearing it in the rain over a sweater help to loosen it up a bit? Is there a hotwatertreatment type thing possible?
Cheers.
