    Second that. The CXL steer softens a lot quicker than the horse. Leaving aside the very heavy steer that Aero had, and maybe still has that by all accounts was like a suit of armour and took years to break in.

    Nice rebuild. I had one over thirty years ago that I rebuilt in my living room. It wasn’t done as nicely as that though. But it was a bike I used every day in London until I changed it for a more practical if less characterful Honda.

    No Peacoat you aren’t imagining it the hide is stiffer in cold temperatures. My CXL steer and HH is always softer when warmed up. It’s the viscosity of the wax and oils in it.

    Yes, I assumed the flap was tucked in. But his isn’t a patch, or cargo pocket. It’s inside not outside the jacket shell. Some jackets in the other pictures look like they might be the same. So they might be earlier jackets, or maybe they are private purchase as I surmised before?

    They seem be the USN 37J1 jackets which came before the A1. Even so there is some variation with the one on the left having pockets set inside the shell rather than patch pockets. I expect that many pilots bought or had their own jackets made and as long as they were pretty similar it was allowed.
