Captaincaveman - what size is your Grayson, and what size do you normally wear? I am liking the Grayson a lot, but I'm wondering how Fox Creek's sizing is. I have heard some people say to go up a size with them.
Papa M - that is one beautiful jacket! I have never been a fan of mouton collars, but that one just works. I like the green "Indian" patch on the outside and I like how it ties in with the green wool lining. Is yours steerhide or buffalo? The hide on the arms has really "jerkyed up" quite a...
Yes, the Enfield has a windflap. If you want to see it, check out my recent "Octagon" Enfield thread. I have some unzipped shots that show the windflap.
I have limited experience with both of these jackets. I have bought both of them, and sent both back. That doesn't mean that I didn't like them both, I just had fit issues with both of the jackets.
The Schott 689HH was too short in the arms for me (size 46 chest the arms were 25")...
I forgot to mention that the other boot arrived today. It came two days after the first boot, weirdly enough. I will post some pics of the pair soon.
I will also give some commentary on the fit and comfort as soon as a I actually get a chance to wear them around.
I almost PM'd you because I thought these looked like your style. The price is definitely right on 'em. Although, like you, I also want to get a pair of Whites or Nick's Boots. And probably a pair of brown Wesco Boss boots. Crap.
The only thing I don't like about the Lennons is that it...
LOL - I had never thought of it that way! I suppose I have put quite a bit of work into finding "the perfect jacket", etc...... my wife definitely thinks so!
Congrats on joining the Aero club - I bought my Highwayman from the same seller on eBay. He was very good to work with.
I have to admit, my Highwayman has spoiled me - the leather is so nice, and the construction is amazingly solid.
Be careful though, they can be an expensive addiction!
I forgot to mention how much these cost - the standard "Derby" boots are 124 pounds ($197).
With the customizing I requested (2" taller, no holes in the toe caps), my boots cost me 130 pounds ($206). The killer was the shipping - it cost 30 pounds to ship them to the US ($47)
So...
OK, they got back to me this morning, and the boots were shipped in separate boxes at the same time - apparently there is a weight limit for certain types of opverseas shipping. It would have been helpful to know that they were coming this way, but it's not big deal as long as the other one...
No, that is not a typo in the title - I said "boot" in the singular.
Allow me to explain:
A few months back, I saw a pair of William Lennon boots that belonged to a member here, and decided I would like to get a pair based on their "Derby" style, but without the holes in the cap toe. I...
HD - The plastic zipper parts feel ok to me, but I will admit they bug me on a $500+ jacket. It seems kind of silly to use two small palstic parts on a zipper that is still 99% metal. It can't be that much of a savings. As for the liner, I'm not usre what it was actually made of - it may not...
Hey all,
I have been wanting to check out a Vanson jacket for some time now, and I have really wanted to try the Enfield in particular. I was also interested in trying it out in Vanson's "Octagon" color - a rich, reddish, saddle-tan color. So when I found out that Vanson had a size 46...
For what it's worth, the Enfield that I have has brass finish zippers, and the the piece at the bottom when the left side of the zipper starts is black plastic. I noticed this as well but forgot to mention it.
Peacoat - The salesman at Vanson said that this one was their 'competition weight' cowhide, but if I didn't know better I might have thought it was the Firenze weight. I think you are roght that a lot of what I am reacting tois the type of leather - and from what I can telll, my negative...
HD -
Despite my previous comments about "my wife will kill me", I ended up cobbling together some cash and ordering an Enfield in a size 46 in the "Octagon" Brown/Tan leather. I decided to try it out because they actually had one in stock in this color - I normally wear a 44, but I had...
Hey Griff, can you post a link to where you bought yours? I am considering getting a pair. I have seen these on the BA Mason website, but I like yours a little better with the tan welt.
Thanks!
- Jim
Griff,
Have you worn pull on boots before? I pull on western boots most of the time, and the fit can be a little hard to judge. The upper of most boots will eventually mold to your heel and the boots will slip a lot less. However, if the boots are significantly too large, the heels will...
HD, I'm sorry if I'm derailing your thread here!
South - "Octagon" is just the name of the leather color. If you look on the Vanson website they have a page that shows a bunch of different colors of leather. Octagon is a saddle tan color that Vanson offers. I'm not sure if it costs more...
