Here's a group of U.S. Navy Chiefs in WWII and one is wearing a civilian leather jacket. During the war there was a lot of latitude allowed in the wearing of one's uniform, especially aboard ship or out on some island in the middle of the South Pacific. Although khaki uniforms were prescribed in...
Just got my first pair of Geier gloves (elk skin 440). They are a size 9.5 and fit perfectly. It's a "work" glove but the fit, finish and construction is so nice that they could pass as dress gloves.
Yes it's goat. Bought it about a year ago. The goatskin has a slightly matte finish, is thick yet flexible and has lots of nice pebbling and grain.
After watching the video posted here, I might get a Suburban in goatskin...or a Test jacket in russet horse. Decisions, decisions!
My LW Raider is a 46 long. I'm 6' 1" and have a regular/slightly long torso and long arms. My preferred jacket measurements are similar to Fanch. My Raider jacket measures 27" sleeves and 27" back length and is just about a perfect fit for me.
Another great video Terry. Thank you for posting. Informative yet casual and friendly. Feels like we're right there with you, sipping a beer and talking about leather jackets. I wish Stuart would post these vids to his LW website. I have 2 LW's in my stable but I'm suddenly tempted to get a third.
If you opt for a Hiwayman the sleeves have an inner elastic storm cuff which keeps the wind out. It doesn't tighten the actual leather cuff circumference but it does provide a snug seal against your wrist. Just a thought.
That custom Steve S manufactured M-422a measures out to a 46/48 Long and it's probably not 100% "accurate" by strict mil-spec WWII standards but then again, it's custom-made for my long-torso, gorilla-armed frame. I don't worry about sleeves riding up as I drive or belt exposure if I reach...
I agree with Fanch. The short-waisted military issue G-1 jackets were worn with a one-piece flight suit (no belt) so jacket body length wasn't an issue. Wearing it with civilian clothes, a short jacket would ride up over the beltline every time you reached forward or upward. The longer G-1 seems...
On the positive side, chrome tanned leather is pretty darn waterproof so if you're going out on a day of rain or off-and-on thunderstorms, it's the perfect jacket. I've worn my chrome tanned LW HH in torrential downpours and was dry underneath.

This is not my listing but it looks to be in pretty good shape; it's listed as a reproduction but I'm fairly certain it's an original M-445.
There is an Excelled Leather and Sheepskin company in NYC. They make men's and women's leather jackets including custom MC jackets. Not sure if they are related to the OP's jacket manufacturer or not.
