What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

That's excellent. I'll defer to the more experienced members, but I'd say you have a mid-1950s example. There are a series of ads from 1953 and 1954 for Champ Lightweights that match the logo on the box and mention both Kasmir and Metal Blue.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Some fantastic lids being posted here! Today, I was wearing a Slouch hat that was thoughtfully sent to me by a Aussie friend on a tool discussion forum to which I belong. It was a size 59 and I take something between 60-61, but I was able to stretch it to my size without any problems with some...

    Akubra Overload

Welcome Syn, I was watching that auction. I'd have been bidding against you except I got my own identical Cattleman back on September 30. I scored mine for US$38.50 and US$14.80 shipping from a Canadian seller and was quite pleased! I actually reported this auction to ePay as a counterfeit...

Ask a question, get an answer

Gus, you are correct that Tilleys have the two cords as you've described. And though it may seem awkward, they aren't; you can poke both up inside the crown if you wish (my normal choice) and you won't feel them up there. And should you ever find yourself in a very windy situation or somewhere...

    Western, anyone?

Thanks, fellows! The hat itself seems to be of passable quality (though it's stiff as a frozen haddock), but that hatband is not the tooled leather it appears to be. It's actually plastic!! That's pretty lame and I will have to remedy this in the fullness of time... The only other hat I own...

    Western, anyone?

On balance I'm not a western hat kind of guy, but one of the first hats that I found when I started collecting them a couple of years ago was a Biltmore "Silver Buckle". It was a mere $15 off kijiji, in 7-5/8 and made in Guelph, ON. It's a full-on cowboy hat and I have fun wearing it at my...

Welcome, Carole! Would you mind posting (or emailing me) a hi-resolution photo/scan of the ad you bought? I'd also be very interested in any information you learn with respect to Wolthausen/Stetson in Brockville!

    Canadian Royal Stetson "Open Road"

In early December, I moved from Milton, Ontario (just outside Toronto) back to Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. My mother is a Newfoundlander and grew up in Mount Pearl from when she was 3 or 4 in about 1937. She lived off the island from 1960 to 1979 when, after my parents divorced, she moved back to...

    The Bowler or Derby Hat

More good info. I had read on here somewhere that the fraying was not a "fault", but was not aware it also suggested a date.
