How many times have you run across a great jacket only to discover that the previous owner was a smoker (and you're not)? I have seen paragraph after paragraph on how to get that smoke smell out using all sorts of potentially harmful or ineffective methods. I will grant that I have had limited...
The jackets I buy are from ebay, garage sales, thrift stores, and craigslist. As I've said before, much of my enjoyment of this hobby is the hunt. I will admit that what I've hunted down, I do enjoy possessing although I certainly don't consider myself a hoarder. Most of the pieces in my...
The apparent differences in quality of Excelled is really amazing. I'd take any of the above jackets in my size. I've had one older "made in usa" Excelled and it was garbage. I sold it at a loss immediately.
My array of jackets is kinda pedestrian compared to many on the forum, but half the fun for me is finding them at thrift stores, ebay, garage sales , etc. for a low price and in my size. The hunt, as it were.
#1- Branded Garments- 4

Make sure you get measurements on California Creations. I've never had one of their jackets, but from what I've seen on ebay, they run at least one size smaller than you think. Looks like pretty decent quality. I think they are out of business.
If you're in the mood for a racer, you might check out Champlain Leather in Vermont. It seems they are only offering this one style right now. I have one and its probably my absolute favorite of all my stuff. Extremely comfortable and (in my opinion) reasonably priced and really well made. Bit...
Those jeans are just worn out. By a machine, I guess, but worn out. For a skillion bucks. I think of all the worn out crummy jeans my mom threw away when I wasn't looking. (I grew up in the 60s. We wore a lot of hippie style ruined garbage.) If I had them now and had a designer name, I could...
If you pick a leather tailor that has been around a long time, they will usually have some pieces left over from other jobs that will be pretty close, especially black. The other members are correct in that it will probably not be exactly the same color, grain, etc. But..it can be close...
My first leather jacket was also an ebay purchase. Kind of a bizarre 70s crosszip. An Avirex maybe. Don't know what I was thinking. Pulled it out of the box and put it on. Fit was actually pretty good. My wife walked in and gave me the weirdest look. She started smiling which quickly became one...
In my experience, Moniter is right. A hole is a hole is a hole. Try to learn to live with it. Or sell it. Or sometimes you can have a panel replaced by an accomplished leather tailor, although you can usually still tell that its a replacement. If the stitch holes are next to a zipper or a seam...
I have an old cr that I had relined. no idea of brand, but it has that weird sort of plasticy feel to the topcoat of the leather. Sheds water like a duck. Important stuff here in Oregon. I know its not the greatest quality, Sears or Fidelity maybe, but it doesn't look half bad and is super...
Not a fit expert like the long time members here, but I think it looks close to perfect. The sleeves are fine. I can't stand wearing too short sleeves myself. I don't know how women can wear jackets that have short sleeve length. Careful with a belt buckle that has spiky stuff protruding out of...
The hunt is at least half of the fun for me. I chuckle all the way out to the car after finding something good at a thrift store. As far as learning about leather, read the threads that pertain to what you are interested in on this site. There are people here who share information you would be...
Looking at some of my jackets this afternoon, it occurred to me that it appears that Branded used to make at least some of the jackets for a shop (now defunct) called "Purple Hog", and tagged as such. I sold one of these and still have one. These don't come up very often that I've seen, but they...
I've worked in the same small machine job shop for 27 years now. We do very precision work and are quite expensive. We're often the only shop in the area that can do a particular part. "Yeah, those guys there can do that part, but it's going to cost you." That type of thing. That said, once in a...
As far as jacket hangers go...try typing in "Icon hangers" on ebay. You can get 6 of them for about $17 & free shipping in US. These are the ones I use, especially for very heavy jackets. Have not noticed any weird marks or wrinkles in about 3 years now.
